Anꞇóin Ó B.<p>Hey MtG players, is there a dedicated hashtag for MtG Forge or is it just not really a thing with a fanbase on the Fediverse?</p><p>I ask as I&#39;d rather not noise up someone else&#39;s discussions needlessly.</p><p>Forge is an open source engine for card games with a modern reimplementation/spiritual successor of that 1990s MicroProse Magic the Gathering videogame (nicknamed Shandalar), it&#39;s at <a href="https://github.com/Card-Forge/forge" target="_blank" rel="nofollow noopener" translate="no"><span class="invisible">https://</span><span class="">github.com/Card-Forge/forge</span><span class="invisible"></span></a> and free for PC and Android.</p><p><a href="https://mastodon.ie/tags/games" class="mention hashtag" rel="tag">#<span>games</span></a> <a href="https://mastodon.ie/tags/cardgames" class="mention hashtag" rel="tag">#<span>cardgames</span></a> <a href="https://mastodon.ie/tags/tcg" class="mention hashtag" rel="tag">#<span>tcg</span></a> <a href="https://mastodon.ie/tags/mtg" class="mention hashtag" rel="tag">#<span>mtg</span></a> <a href="https://mastodon.ie/tags/MagicTheGathering" class="mention hashtag" rel="tag">#<span>MagicTheGathering</span></a></p>
Shawn "Fruan" Poulsen<p>Fleemposters can't keep the hype going for even a week, and meanwhile I'm still absolutely feral for Ashnod 31 years and counting.</p><p><a href="https://kind.social/tags/MagicTheGathering" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>MagicTheGathering</span></a></p>
Sapphire<p>Game 3: versus Jace, Vryn's Prodigy and another Volgavoth, Harrower of Souls. The Jace player said he proxied his whole deck, because he didn't wanna pay for an $8k deck. Kinda makes Buu and I wanna put a ton of proxies in our decks but whatever. IMO, playing Mill in commander is unwise. He said he had a 2-card combo that could make us mill our whole deck.. But good luck getting both those cards in the 99 without tutors. I Craterhoofed for 2/3s of their life, then we did exactsies the next turn. </p><p>We had a blast, and I'm so proud of how our decks performed. We make a great team! </p><p>(fin)</p><p><a href="https://mstdn.games/tags/MagicTheGathering" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>MagicTheGathering</span></a> <a href="https://mstdn.games/tags/MTG" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>MTG</span></a> <a href="https://mstdn.games/tags/Commander" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>Commander</span></a> <a href="https://mstdn.games/tags/EDH" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>EDH</span></a></p>
Sapphire<p>Game 2: versus Niv Mizzet and Giada. The Niv player wanted to board wipe, but the Giada player convinced her not to (he didn't wanna lose his creatures), which is what lost them the game. Buu had played Pact of Negation &amp; wouldn't have been able to pay for it the next turn without his mana dorks, and didn't have enough mana up for a counter spell (which was my fault, I convinced him to play another mana dork.) So instead the Niv player got Gamble, to get an aura that basically woulda won them the game. She let Buu pick the card to randomly discard, and he discarded the Aura. Then I Craterhoofed (everything got +12). On turn 5. She said "You guys suck. I still love you, but you guys suck." (The Giada player was very salty.) They both got packs in the raffle. I hope they got something good. &lt;3</p><p>(continued)</p><p><a href="https://mstdn.games/tags/MagicTheGathering" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>MagicTheGathering</span></a> <a href="https://mstdn.games/tags/MTG" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>MTG</span></a> <a href="https://mstdn.games/tags/Commander" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>Commander</span></a> <a href="https://mstdn.games/tags/EDH" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>EDH</span></a></p>
Sapphire<p>My most recent <a href="https://mstdn.games/tags/NailDesign" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>NailDesign</span></a> is in honor of tonight's Two Headed Giant <a href="https://mstdn.games/tags/EDH" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>EDH</span></a> event at our local game store. I played Mana Shenanigans (bracket 3: Freyalise, Llanowar's Fury) and Buu played Froggies (bracket 3: Helga, Skittish Seer). There were no prizes, just raffles (which we didn't win), but we went undefeated in our games, as I'd hoped we would!</p><p>Game 1: versus Valgavoth, Harrower of Souls (precon) and Vivi Ornitier. The Vivi player said his deck was "balanced" (but he also said his goal was to "play 30 spells per turn"). And he said he had no game-changers, but played Chrome Mox early. It's cool, I used Apex Altisaur to kill most of their dudes, then Buu copied Apex Altisaur to kill the rest of their dudes. Then I used Umbral Mantle and Circle of Dreams Druid the following turn for infinite pumps.</p><p>(continued)</p><p><a href="https://mstdn.games/tags/NailPolish" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>NailPolish</span></a> <a href="https://mstdn.games/tags/NailArt" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>NailArt</span></a> <a href="https://mstdn.games/tags/MagicTheGathering" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>MagicTheGathering</span></a> <a href="https://mstdn.games/tags/Commander" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>Commander</span></a></p>

Talen Lee<p>Through the Omenpaths is better <a href="https://kind.social/tags/magicthegathering" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>magicthegathering</span></a></p>
LiteralGrill<p>Me: Ya know, I gotta figure out what squirrel tokens I should use for this deck to print them out. :neocat_think: </p><p>🧠 : You know, you could make custom tokens with sexy art of Hazel from Sword in the Stone.</p><p>Me: Brain... I am REALLY not confident my friends want to see Hazel furry gooner art while we play Magic the Gathering. :neocat_woozy: </p><p><a href="https://sakurajima.moe/tags/MTG" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>MTG</span></a> <a href="https://sakurajima.moe/tags/MagicTheGathering" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>MagicTheGathering</span></a> <a href="https://sakurajima.moe/tags/Furry" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>Furry</span></a></p>
Talen Lee<p>Scryfall not updating to include Through the Omenpaths is both extremely understandable and an attack on me, personally <a href="https://kind.social/tags/magicthegathering" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>magicthegathering</span></a></p>
Talen Lee<p>The team-up cards on in March of the Machine gives you the tech you need to solve every spider card and many of them *don't*. <a href="https://kind.social/tags/magicthegathering" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>magicthegathering</span></a></p>
eThanOS ☠️<p><span>Here's an </span><a href="https://infosec.town/tags/obsidianmd" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#obsidianmd</a><span> plugin I've been working on this weekend for </span><a href="https://infosec.town/tags/magicthegathering" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#magicthegathering</a><span> </span><a href="https://infosec.town/tags/mtg" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#mtg</a></p>
Talen Lee<p>mark my words, I want to do a custom magic rebuild of Through the Omenpaths that creates it as a set with a coherent narrative in time and space, even if it's basically an anime filler movie and adds flavour text to all cards <a href="https://kind.social/tags/magicthegathering" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>magicthegathering</span></a></p>
Talen Lee<p>Alright, done with the gallery. It is nice to not have the visceral hate of Spider-man I had in my gut looking at the cards, to help evaluate these as more likable cards, but I am overwhelmed by how this set needed a more coherent vision and it feels like 1. That vision is SO CLOSE TO RIGHT THERE, and 2. That challenge seems SO VERY FUN TO DO. <a href="https://kind.social/tags/magicthegathering" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>magicthegathering</span></a></p>
Talen Lee<p>something that has always defined Magic: The Gathering over other more ramshackle games in the past is their overwhelming, perhaps terrifying, level of control, and this whole Spiderman bullshit has been a testament to what it looks like when they're *not able to control for everything.* Imagine announcing Spiderman WITHOUT securing the online rights. They had this in the pocket for YEARS! <a href="https://kind.social/tags/magicthegathering" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>magicthegathering</span></a></p>
Talen Lee<p>"We like technology because of how it works, but we love it for how it fails."</p><p>Through the Omenpaths is an example of a rare example of a _large scale_ Magic: the Gathering failure and I am fucking fascinated by it. <a href="https://kind.social/tags/magicthegathering" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>magicthegathering</span></a></p>
Talen Lee<p>As a designer, Through the Omenpaths fascinates me so much because what I was hoping they'd do is compose some coherent, central sense that matches to the narrative of the card's mechanics, as opposed to now, where it's a patchwork of places to try and get over a line. And I get it, this whole thing feels rushed and like it's using slush art, the cards don't seem to have flavour text, so everything is here to extrapolate. <a href="https://kind.social/tags/magicthegathering" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>magicthegathering</span></a></p>
Talen Lee<p>Delightedly reading the Through the Omenpaths spoiler and deeply disappointed at how unhorny all the spider and symbiote stuff is being when they had full license to make an UNREASONABLY sexy hunk or two <a href="https://kind.social/tags/magicthegathering" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>magicthegathering</span></a></p>
Artemis<p>damn. 31 of the 180 cards in the new <a href="https://mstdn.social/tags/MTG" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>MTG</span></a> set are Spider Man. That's 17% of the cards. <br><a href="https://mstdn.social/tags/MagicTheGathering" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>MagicTheGathering</span></a></p>
Alexander Ondu<p><span class="h-card" translate="no"><a href="https://mastodon.social/@nielsk" class="u-url mention" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">@<span>nielsk</span></a></span></p><p>What I am sceptical about:</p><p>For the next couple of years, paper players and online players will be talking about two different sets of cards. That can't be good.</p><p>(And yeah, the wizards in charge should have taken a step back when they realized that they couldn't use the Marvel IP for their online games. Maybe they should have realized that they are hurting the game for fast money and that this time, they went to far. But hey, let's fix it with the omenpaths...)</p><p><a href="https://troet.cafe/tags/magicthegathering" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>magicthegathering</span></a></p>
Alexander Ondu<p>I've been playing <a href="https://troet.cafe/tags/mtg" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>mtg</span></a> for a rather long time now. Back in my teens, I was one of those fanboys that quickly screamed "OMG they killed <a href="https://troet.cafe/tags/magic" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>magic</span></a>" at quite a few situations.<br>I was pretty sure that mythic rares would kill the game, after that I was afraid of unique cards that could only be optained from certain decks (i. e. True-Name Nemesis).</p><p>That was bogus, of course. But now I do think that the <a href="https://troet.cafe/tags/SpiderMan" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>SpiderMan</span></a> / Omenpaths split can't be good for the long term health of the game.</p><p><a href="https://troet.cafe/tags/magicthegathering" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>magicthegathering</span></a></p>
