TWiT Podcasts<p>🧮 Did you know macOS Sequoia’s Notes app can now do math? <span class="h-card" translate="no"><a href="https://mastodon.social/@mikahsargent" class="u-url mention" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">@<span>mikahsargent</span></a></span> demos the new Math Notes feature on Hands-On Mac 175—no calculator needed!<br>🍎 <a href="https://mastodon.social/tags/macOSSequoia" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>macOSSequoia</span></a> <a href="https://mastodon.social/tags/MathNotes" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>MathNotes</span></a><br>📲 Download and subscribe here:<br>🔗 <a href="https://buff.ly/77aAfot" rel="nofollow noopener" translate="no" target="_blank"><span class="invisible">https://</span><span class="">buff.ly/77aAfot</span><span class="invisible"></span></a><br>✨ Get the ad-free video version by joining Club TWiT!</p>
Arnd Layer<p>For example, <a href="https://mastodon.social/tags/MathNotes" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>MathNotes</span></a> tries to keep track of units, which is good. But it looses the unit when I get the difference of two dates - it returns the number of years when only the year is different, which is wat I need here.<br>So when I have another variable that is €/year, the product is still €/year although it should be just €.<br>Also, the ANSI standard for dates does not work reliably, because the „-„ character can also be an operator.</p>

I can’t even figure out when a variable is recognized and when it’s not. <br>The idea of having a text document that can calculate is very appealing to me. But it has to work.</p><p>By the way, I’m still waiting for an implementation of <a href="https://mastodon.social/tags/jupyter" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>jupyter</span></a> <a href="https://mastodon.social/tags/notebook" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>notebook</span></a>|s as an app that doesn’t spin up a local server when running.</p>
Haj lover soon at OrangeCon<p>When <a href="https://eldritch.cafe/tags/Apple" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>Apple</span></a> announced <a href="https://eldritch.cafe/tags/MathNotes" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>MathNotes</span></a>, I was really amazed. When I see all the lacks, beginning by the lack of math symbols in the keyboard, I am angry to see what a failure is it.<br>Some of what it miss to be able to be usable for engineering, instead of being an unusable toy:</p><ul><li>Math sign in the keyboard (square, square root, pi, etc.) and easily accessible</li><li>Math name recognition (Pi, e, etc.)</li><li>Subscript support, including with numbers (R1=7, R2=3, etc.; useful for electronics)</li><li>Complex numbers support</li></ul><p>Here is an example of the last time I used it. The expected result is T= 18.8496, not 108. I let you understand the error…</p>

Sören<p><a href="https://norden.social/tags/MathNotes" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>MathNotes</span></a> in iPadOS 18 isn’t just a cool feature; she also demos it well by first showing the basics, then building on them. Easy for the audience to follow what’s going on.</p>
