Duck Marshall 🚲<p>A friend shared some videos she did for the <a href="https://mastodon.scot/tags/microbit" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>microbit</span></a> and I watched them with my 7-year-old who got super enthusiastic and wanted one. My micro:bit arrived the very next day and he IMMEDIATELY got stuck in trying to code with it; he'd done some <a href="https://mastodon.scot/tags/scratch" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>scratch</span></a> at school so was comfortable with the visual coding. He followed the hot potato tutorial and improved it with his own sound effects. This is already an absolute win! </p><p>Looks like I'm going to need to buy another for myself, this one is his now!</p>

Sherri W (SyntaxSeed)<p>My complaint remains from the <a href="https://phpc.social/tags/Arduino" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>Arduino</span></a> though. Lessons have an over-emphasis on the coding part but only cursory explanation of circuits &amp; electronics.</p><p>It amounts to mostly blindly following a wiring diagram.</p><p>Also haven't found much in the way of Official video lessons other than kits for teachers. 🤔</p><p>Currently using the big lesson PDF from Freenove (the company behind the <a href="https://phpc.social/tags/Microbit" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>Microbit</span></a> + extras kit we bought).</p>
Sherri W (SyntaxSeed)<p>One of my sons received a <a href="https://phpc.social/tags/MicroBit" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>MicroBit</span></a> for his birthday. It's a microcontroller kit similar to <a href="https://phpc.social/tags/Arduino" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>Arduino</span></a>, but a bit more kid/student friendly. With input buttons &amp; an LED matrix display &amp; various sensors right on the board. Very cool. He can program it with a Scratch-style visual block language (or JS or Python).</p><p><a href="https://phpc.social/tags/electronics" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>electronics</span></a> <a href="https://phpc.social/tags/STEM" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>STEM</span></a> <a href="https://phpc.social/tags/Circuits" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>Circuits</span></a></p>
