I know everyone is focused on national politics at the moment, but for those in #NYC who are concerned about #NYCParks budget being chiseled away year after year and the subsequent effects on the quality of life, here is a way to make your voice heard directly to the City Council.

Get out to City Hall on March 17. This is both a #rally and a chance to speak at a budget hearing

EventbritePlay Fair for Parks Rally & Preliminary Budget HearingLet’s remind City Hall that parks are essential infrastructure—not a luxury. Play Fair for Parks!

My office hvac is broke. So I am remotely working from the #nyc greenways summit part of my day.

Oh the joy of having the #NYCparks employee literally running from me because they don’t have a plan to fix the #HudsonRiverGreenway which succumbed to years of neglect and extreme rain and now has collapsed in a section.

Now I bike on the #HarlemRiverGreenway — it isn’t far behind in collapsing from extreme rain.

In my neighborhood, #NYCparks are replacing a (uptown #nyc neglected) grass field w #ArtificialTurf , a #UrbanHeatIsland exacerbater

Parks ReplyGuy says new stuff uses coconut shells not rubber infill so is fine; But w/o évapotranspiration, I doubt it. Bare soil is bad too — the field def needs a rehab

Plus plastic runoff. Sports injuries. Outgassing. Ick.

I thought other cities were banning this stuff.

Thoughts?

I am livid that I am still unable to do my bike commute because #nycparks through hubris and neglect allowed a sinkhole to take the path out— 18 months after closing said path and supposedly fixing it.

Let’s tell him that bikes ARE transportation.

We need the same sense of urgency to keep bike lanes safe and passable as cars get for highways.

#nyc rips out trees and grass to put in #ArtificialTurf because it drains n is cheaper to maintain in spite of its contribution to #UrbanHeatIsland

They assure you that it’s not the old AstroTurf— it has pads n coconut shells not rubber infill

But plastic grass doesn’t evaporate moisture out of its leaves - évapotranspiration- so still gets hot enough to cook an egg

Mayor Eric Adam’s wants to cut $55million from parks; he let the nypd take $2.2 billion in overtime alone last year

If you live or just love #nyc #parks ,

And think that our #NYCParks are one of our greatest assets =>

Please tell Mayor Adams to increase not cut their budget.

NYC council has already told them their thoughts

#RiversideParkNYC or #nycparks or #NaturalAreasConservancy has been really busy in a good way (IMHO) in the area downhill from Grant's Tomb and just north of the 119th Street Tennis Courts. Forestry has been here and cut down trees which were not needed and would have allowed goats to escape.

Also note the addition of coir logs which prevent water from cascading down the hillside.

I don't know why some of the cuts on the trunks have been painted.

In #nyc , our mayor and our governor give us austerity budgets and try to make life difficult by underfunding our #NYCschools and abandoning our #NYCparks because they are worried that the rich will leave if they tax them.

Point-of-fact, the rich do NOT leave because of NYC/NYS taxes. Middle class people do (probably because you’ve underfunded and messed up schools) and poor people leave (because housing is so expensive).
