Brief interview with me about neuroqueer theory, conducted by the marvelous NeEddra James, aired on Berkeley's KALX radio this morning.
To listen online, find the recording titled "North Gate Radio." My segment runs from 9:09:45 to 9:15:45.

This coming Monday, May 19, the OPEN Foundation will be hosting me and my esteemed friend & colleague Dr. Alicia Danforth for a conversation about autism & psychedelics!
It's free, it's on Zoom, and everything else I know about it can be found here:

If you do this consistently and it always negatively effects your life, you might have ADHD.
Oh no! I accidentally stumbled upon it! The Gatekeeper stamp!

Yeah it's as bad as I remember.
"I believe the main issue of this occurring is the hypochondriacs of the world or those who refuse to fit into social society when they can do it naturally and plainly.
First of all, it’s an insult to the people who have it: granted Asperger’s Syndrome isn’t that bad (however if you are on the lower scale of AS it can be; there are many with AS that cannot speak and are socially and sometimes physically crippled): why on earth would you want to have it? And second of all, it’s an even larger insult when they enter the Asperger’s community and speak on behalf of said community when them there selves have not being diagnosed.
Granted, there may be a small possibility that this is true and that they have not yet being diagnosed, but severe cases are diagnosed young and those who have it enough to affect their lives greatly are normally diagnosed before the age of 10 as well."
Where do I even start?! So much ignorance in one post!
"if you are dismissed you are dismissed as the traits of Asperger’s Syndrome are normally seen very clearly from the professional perspective"
Hahah, did you train Dr Whatsup?!
Bear in mind this stamp is 13 years old and the person who posted it may not think like that anymore. My rebuttal is linked in the post above.
From now through this Sunday, you can still use this link to get the audio version of my book Neuroqueer Heresies for half price!

I ended up going down a little rabbit hole about #neurodivergence and #depression. I would consider myself #neurodivergent because my depression is lifelong and greatly impacts my daily life. I thought this article was informative as well as interesting. What do y'all think? #mentalhealth #mentalillness #mdd #majordepressivedisorder #depression #askfedi

Just watched a short by AuDHD content creator Olivia Lutfallah, entitled "This is why ADHD is so hard" and, ooooof, did we feel it
The video sadly lacks subtitles, so we ran it through the Audio To Text (Whisper) functionality in Subtitle Edit to generate a transcript for accessibility purposes:
One of the hardest parts about having ADHD isn't a lack of talent, but the lack of consistency.
It's knowing that you could be amazing at so many different things, but never managing to stick to one long enough to show it.
People call you smart, but your thoughts are so far ahead that your mouth just can't keep up.
It's a constant loop of forgetting, restarting, and chasing a finish line that just keeps on moving.
Even friendships take a hit. You either drift away without realizing, or you give so much of yourself that people stop valuing it.
We joke about it like it's nothing, but deep down, we are actively grieving the versions of ourselves that we may have been if only our minds would just slow down.
In case anyone wants to know the settings we used to generate this, we used Purfview's Faster-Whisper-XXL as the engine with the large-v3 English language model.
The Cass Review was not only dismissive of trans identities, but it infantilised #autistic people, suggesting we don’t know our own minds until our 20s.

You know how at times we are aware of the age of a fact/thought/memory in our minds? Like it has a certain texture about it? Dreams can manipulate this. A dream is an altered mind state. What if the reason for neurodivergent time-blindness has to do less with hyperfocus or awareness in itself, and more to do with the moments we usually refer to, to keep time, lacking that texture or us being unable to discern that texture in our most common states?

I know a lot of neurodivergent folks, and almost none of them are philanthropic math savant assassins.

U.S. Secretary of Health and Human Services Robert F. Kennedy Jr. made a number of incorrect statements about autistic people recently, one of which was that "they'll never write a poem."
Bradley J. Irish, an autistic professor of English, writes for @TheConversationUS about the remarkable corpus of poetry written by autistic people, from modern poets like David Miedzianik and Adam Wolfond, to people from the past who may have been neurodivergent or autistic. Neurodivergent poet and educator Chris Martin describes working with autistic students: “Time and again, I have watched my students … grasp the hand of poetry and begin dancing like they’ve been doing it their whole lives.”
Dear light-sensitive people, can you please share experiences with or recommendations for FL-41 glasses?
I am looking for something that will help me navigate the harsh lights at my work place. I do have a rather small skull, so I often have to look long and hard for sunnies that don't slide off my nose. Hence, I'm looking for FL-41 glasses that have a relatively small fit. Do you have any recommendations?
Do you have any other advice that you can share? Thanks!
