OK, speaking of #Valheim
I've been playing on #Linux, using #Steam, in #Sway (#Wayland, obv.) and while I have an #NVidia GPU, it doesn't seem to be getting used? Yes, it's an older GPU, but even at around 10FPS on the lowest quality video settings, I'm consistently only getting about 12 FPS, which... it's less fun. It's still playable for somebody like me who is an old and doesn't really do a lot of high-FPS gaming or whatever (as you can tell) but I'm genuinely wondering what I'm doing wrong.

Anybody have any tips? The usual googling turns up lots of "won't launch" but that isn't the problem I'm having.

A tech question:

I have bought a fancy #Elgato #Facecam , and while its "Camera Hub" software has some basic functionality for camera angle and so forth, it wants me to install #NVIDIA Broadcast if I want to use a custom background for the picture.

Now I want to know... how dodgy is NVIDIA Broadcast as a software? I am leery of installing anything that might end up little more than disguised data mining and whatnot.

Ubuntu Plucky Puffin 25.04 is released and it's almost good.

I had to install Remmina from snap because the apt version stopped connecting to Windows.

The Nvidia 1060 is running on Wayland, performance is fine and all three screens work, but every 20 or 30 minutes the screen freezes and then after a minute or so, everything starts going again.

Here's hoping this is resolved in the next few days.

TIL #AMD has #GPU (s) that have no hardware encoding capabilities whatsoever, i.e. their #RX6400. Yikes? Be careful when buying GPUs from AMD, I suppose.

It's one thing when people compare AMD GPUs with
#NVIDIA's saying AMD's encoding prowess is inferior vs something like #NVENC, but to literally be unable to hardware transcode H264, HEVC, etc. as a modern GPU is insanely hilarious seeing that it's something even ancient GPUs and even iGPUs are capable of.

AMD CPUs? Solid, my last
#Intel CPU was literally 7th gen - have gone through at least ~5 CPU upgrades since then. AMD GPUs? Stayed away from them and will continue to do so, even as a #Linux user. NVIDIA GPUs have been perfectly fine for me on #X11 before, and is perfectly usable (+ continually improving) on #Wayland now - Intel Arc GPUs are also affordable and perfect for my #homelab/servers.
