Jakub Klawiter :mastodon:<p>A w sprawie klamerki… to klamerka o którą chodziło jest kompletnie nie do bielizny…<br>A co z tego wyniknie to się dopiero okaże. :D</p><p><a href="https://mastodon.social/tags/OpenSCAD" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>OpenSCAD</span></a> <a href="https://mastodon.social/tags/3Dprinting" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>3Dprinting</span></a> <a href="https://mastodon.social/tags/beekeeping" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>beekeeping</span></a> <a href="https://mastodon.social/tags/DIY" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>DIY</span></a></p>
OpenSCAD<p>Due to this topic coming up recently, we'll have a look at how <a href="https://floss.social/tags/OpenSCAD" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>OpenSCAD</span></a> supports typographic features some modern fonts have. A list of features can be found at <a href="https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_typographic_features" rel="nofollow noopener" translate="no" target="_blank"><span class="invisible">https://</span><span class="ellipsis">en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_</span><span class="invisible">typographic_features</span></a> along with a short description of what they do.</p><p>OpenSCAD supports enabling those features when specifying the font to use in the text() module.</p><p>The screenshot shows the different display of the "Linux Libertine G" font (<a href="https://www.numbertext.org/linux/" rel="nofollow noopener" translate="no" target="_blank"><span class="invisible">https://www.</span><span class="">numbertext.org/linux/</span><span class="invisible"></span></a>) with "Small Caps" and "Oldstyle Figures" features enabled.</p>
;-)</p><p><a href="https://mastodon.social/tags/DIY" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>DIY</span></a> <a href="https://mastodon.social/tags/3dprint" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>3dprint</span></a> <a href="https://mastodon.social/tags/openscad" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>openscad</span></a></p>
Jasper 🍉<p>It seems like if the object is in the middle, you can't see it. <a href="https://mastodon.nl/tags/openscad" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>openscad</span></a></p><p>used 1/F = 1/a + 1/b and ya/yb = -za/zb, basically.</p><p>But also a bit of a hack with the shapes, used the size changes to take an input shape of light, `hull`ing it to a central point and then adding `scale(-1)` which is does the end beyond the focus. The result is `intersection`ed to the relevant area.</p><p>The next input it made by using that shape and intersecting with the lens.(1/2)</p>
Matthias Dittgen :bc:<p>the basket works well hanging on a skadis wall with a standard hook, too. <a href="https://toot.community/tags/ikea" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>ikea</span></a> <a href="https://toot.community/tags/hack" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>hack</span></a> <a href="https://toot.community/tags/skadis" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>skadis</span></a> <a href="https://toot.community/tags/openscad" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>openscad</span></a> <a href="https://toot.community/tags/3dprinting" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>3dprinting</span></a></p>
Matthias Dittgen :bc:<p>Todays print worked well. Result is quite satisfying. Can't wait to do more with different parameters (sizes, rhythm, bands) <a href="https://toot.community/tags/3dprinting" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>3dprinting</span></a> <a href="https://toot.community/tags/basket" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>basket</span></a> <a href="https://toot.community/tags/openscad" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>openscad</span></a></p>
OpenSCAD<p>Even though it has been a bit quiet here, <a href="https://floss.social/tags/OpenSCAD" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>OpenSCAD</span></a> development is going on including quite a number of first-time contributions. We'll look a some of the new features in the next couple of posts...</p><p>Let's start with a GUI improvement. It is now possible to define the behavior of mouse buttons using a predefined setup or by choosing an action for each mouse button directly. Many thanks to Harry Braviner who added this feature.</p>
Matthias Dittgen :bc:<p>Got it. Now I can just apply radius, height, numberOfSegments and rhythm to generically render basket walls. <a href="https://toot.community/tags/3d" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>3d</span></a> <a href="https://toot.community/tags/modelling" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>modelling</span></a> <a href="https://toot.community/tags/3dprinting" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>3dprinting</span></a> <a href="https://toot.community/tags/openscad" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>openscad</span></a> <a href="https://toot.community/tags/math" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>math</span></a> <a href="https://toot.community/tags/basket" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>basket</span></a> <a href="https://toot.community/tags/shape" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>shape</span></a></p>
Jonathan Lamothe<p><a href="https://social.jlamothe.net/search?tag=OpenSCAD" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>OpenSCAD</span></a> question:</p><p>if in wanted to emboss text around the outer rounded edge of a cylinder, how would I go about doing that? I don't know how to transform an object on a curve like that.</p><p><a href="https://social.jlamothe.net/search?tag=3DPrinting" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>3DPrinting</span></a></p>
Stewart Russell<p>Whee! I just learned how to lay objects flat in OpenSCAD! It's neither easy nor fun, but it works.</p><p><a href="https://xoxo.zone/tags/OpenSCAD" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>OpenSCAD</span></a></p>
Matthias Dittgen :bc:<p>back to my choctaw-like basket model, making progress calculating the height to cut top and bottom. <a href="https://toot.community/tags/openscad" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>openscad</span></a> <a href="https://toot.community/tags/3dprinting" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>3dprinting</span></a></p>

Jonathan Lamothe<p>So, I've been getting reasonably decent with <a href="https://social.jlamothe.net/search?tag=OpenSCAD" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>OpenSCAD</span></a>. I've debated opening an Etsy store, but I don't own a <a href="https://social.jlamothe.net/search?tag=3DPrinter" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>3DPrinter</span></a>. While I do have <em>access</em> to a couple for personal projects, I have nothing that would be suitable for commercial use, nor do I have the seed money to buy one.</p><p>One of the services I'm thinking of offering in the interim is creating custom STL files for people based on a rough sketch or photo, but I don't know if that would be a viable thing.</p><p>Is that a thing anyone here would have interest in?</p>
Pete Prodoehl 🍕<p>I started designing a hook. I didn't have a plan, just started writing code. It mostly works, still need to make it parametric.</p><p>How would do make a simple hook like this?</p><p><a href="https://mastodon.social/tags/OpenSCAD" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>OpenSCAD</span></a> <a href="https://mastodon.social/tags/OpenSCADClub" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>OpenSCADClub</span></a> <span class="h-card" translate="no"><a href="https://a.gup.pe/u/openscadclub" class="u-url mention" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">@<span>openscadclub</span></a></span></p>
:D</p><p><a href="https://mastodon.social/tags/DIY" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>DIY</span></a> <a href="https://mastodon.social/tags/openscad" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>openscad</span></a></p>
Darren<p>No <a href="https://sfba.social/tags/3dprinting" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>3dprinting</span></a> design is complete without a little <a href="https://sfba.social/tags/ducttape" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>ducttape</span></a>. This is an <a href="https://sfba.social/tags/openscad" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>openscad</span></a> design of a ratetable to calibrate an accelerometer.</p>
Jonathan LamotheI wish <a href="https://social.jlamothe.net/search?tag=OpenSCAD" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>OpenSCAD</span></a> let you pass one module as an input to another.
Jonathan LamotheKaty wanted a fancy organizer for her alcohol markers but we didn't have the money for it. What I *did* have was a copy of <a href="https://pixelfed.sdf.org/discover/tags/OpenSCAD?src=hash" class="u-url hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#OpenSCAD</a> and access to a <a href="https://pixelfed.sdf.org/discover/tags/3DPrinter?src=hash" class="u-url hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#3DPrinter</a>, so I made us a better one.

Dave 🔜 @WHY2025<p>Ran out of designing mojo for this one today: a 3D printed case for the <a href="https://chaos.social/tags/WHY2025" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>WHY2025</span></a> badge. It looks like the badge is a PCB sandwich with a bare back? Anywho, this design lacks an opening or mechanism for the power button.</p><p>Looking forward to receiving the badge! <a href="https://chaos.social/tags/OpenSCAD" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>OpenSCAD</span></a></p>
