Elena Rossini: PeerTube: the Fediverse’s decentralized video platform (part 2: creator edition). “In the previous article in this series I covered what it’s like to use PeerTube from the point of view of a casual user… Today’s post will discuss: how to use the software as a video creator – and its advantages over video hosting platforms by Big Tech companies.”

What software do activists need?

The core problem for the last 20 years has been that most activists were locked into #dotcons (corporate social media silos) because open alternatives were either too difficult to use, lack network effects, or fail to meet their practical needs. With the current reboot of the #openweb with the #fedivers based on #ActivityPub has already taken a step away from this mess. Here's my drum cover of "The Perfect Element" by Pain of Salvation!

For Sandro, who decided to enter the room in the middle of the recording!
Feel free to blame him for all the mistakes 😄

I used the live version for the final part, as I think that's amazing - and also saves some drumming 😁

Hope you like it!

@pagangod @jam #nebula is a great example, because as an independent production company they are the David vs Googles Goliath.

They have their own subscription system and their own platform. But you do know that it entails a lot of work, in developing and testing such a platform.

I.e, the barrier to entry for something like Nebula is high - especially considering the talent they had on staff since day 1.

But what if #PeerTube had monetization systems built in, for all to use?

One of my other goals for 2025 was to cut back on my usage of FreeTube.

I love that it blocks ads and trackers, and it has SponsorBlock integration, but I'm still watching way to much stuff from a capitalist platform and its creators.

Starting this weekend, I'm gonna unsubscribe from most creators on FreeTube and shift towards PeerTube full time.
