Pawpaws are a local native deciduous fruit bearing tree. (https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Asimina_triloba) Not to be confused with papaya (also called pawpaws by some). These are green skinned fruits with yellow fruit inside. They taste kind of like sweet sticky melons with a hint of avocado? They taste amazing. Their seeds are quite large and they require a period of freezing over winter so they'll germinate in spring. This guerrilla arborist harvested seeds from last year, put them in a baggy with some sawdust and a little bit of water and chilled them in the fridge over the winter. We planted them today. They'll sprout in about six months and start producing fruit in about six years. I intend to harvest a lot of seeds this year and begin planting in earnest next year. We're building out the local food forests. Folks should eat for free. Was feeling this morning like we've been neglecting the community allotment this year. We've been short staffed and some of our regular volunteers have been unwell. I had a lovely afternoon down there potting up many things that had self seeded accompanied by lots of buzzing bees loving the lungwort and honey berry flowers. Now have many pots of strawberries, chives, foxgloves to pass on and lots of things are growing happily so all ok. 🐝🌱😃 #gardening #permaculture #Allotment #AllotmentLife

Got given a batch of very old fruit and veg seeds and done some germination testing (most have 50 - 70% germination rates which is pretty good). Thought I'd just plant these globe artichoke seeds and give them a try. Seeds are allegedly best sown before 2017. I soaked them for a few days in water and then put in a covered seed tray in my car to act as a mini greenhouse. 2 weeks later half have come up. It really does annoy me the hype from seed sellers that you must use new seeds - it is true for some veg but for most things it really isn't! For anyone concerned about where I'm going to plant a dozen globe artichokes which will grow into enormous plants.. will give most away through our #CommunityFridge and keep one. #permaculture #GrowYourOwn #Allotment #AllotmentLife

I'm a maker of dolls inspired by nature, folklore, labyrints of myth, mind and magic. My dolls are mostly witches, and when they leave my home, they often become altar dolls. It's been a weird and interesting journey of doll making for the past 7 years, 600+ dolls now live in homes and collections around the world.

Besides crafting dolls I'm into permaculture, paganism, self-sufficiency, foraging and neverending self-development. I'm a forest dweller, mushroom hunter, food grower and herb lover deep in the countryside in Latvia (North-Eastern Europe). All of that I might occasionally share here. you see is still night/morning frost here in Finland. garden not be take care of for year and year, much unkempt, overgrown. that be good for many thing! but also there be trash of lie around 😢

also see one of tree (it be tallest in line of 5 pine) be have bare patch on branch. last summer it be have many yellow needle from dry (maybe heat too). yellow needle fall off but now be bare patches. I be give water to tree, hope recover this year.

I be want help soil be hold water more. maybe dig little ditch or make depression near tree? #permaculture peeps, can give advice?

The bee population die off that has stricken the United States agricultural sector is a four alarm fire.
