A complex, blazing sky with multiple cloud systems creating a wash of shapes, colours and shadows above the horizon. Beneath runs a clearly delineated silhouette of trees, house and utility poles, still black before dawn. Sitting low over the horizon is a bank of low cumulus, which is casting shadows or completely blocking the light from the nearly-risen sun. Much higher up is a relatively flat cloud base with occasional defined banks, the edges of which are lit up blazing yellow-white, while the remainder are various shades of orange or charcoal grey, depending on the shadows from the low cumulus.

Looking down into a mist-filled landscape of alternating treed ridges and valleys. Although it's a colour photo, the light is sepia-toned and monochromatic, there is no discernible colour. The scene is dim; the nearest ridges are clearly visible, but only as near-black, near-silhouette outlines of mature eucalypts. The subsequent valley is partly filled with mist, and the trees are only dimly visible. The next ridge is shrouded, and the trees can be seen but blurred. Behind that ridge the mist is denser, and from there back only vague darker shapes can be seen in the almost complete white.

It's the end of the sunset as the gradation from hazy grey-blue to dirty yellows and oranges fills the sky. A couple of lines of jet plane travel intersect the horizon. Looking out over the rooftops of Paris, the last moments of sunlight highlight their edges while their chimneys and television aeriels stand in silhouettes. In the distance, the Dame de Fer, la Tour Eiffel, stands tall in the mists of evening taking over the streets below her.
