Time to migrate away from Pocket, again.
Keeps crashing and missing links.
Mozilla really couldn't care less about it, too busy drawing magic numbers for exec compensation.

The AYANEO Pocket Micro (Classic), I've been talking about. Arrived this week, and I gotta admit... this is top-tier product design and build quality. Review on @overkillwtf soon!
Seems that Pocket is either EOL or about to be relaunched as another AI discovery widget.
Either way backup as much as you can.
The extension already stopped working on Chromium browsers and Mozilla hasn't said anything about it despite being one of their few paid products with mainstream appeal.
I really want to keep using & supporting #gecko but #Mozilla is going down the toilet- what to do?
#Firefox desktop -> #LibreWolf (that was easy, simply copied my profile and it all came back exactly as before)
#Firefox mobile -> #IronFox (also easy on #GrapheneOS via #Accrescent store)
I can still use #FirefoxSync on both which is nice 'cos I am not quite ready to leave that convenience yet.
Now it's mostly just a matter of replacing my dependency on #Pocket (compiled out of LibreWolf), but that was on my list of services to deprecate anyway...
So for some of you that think the verbage on the #Mozilla #Firefox is enough, to me - and to many others - it is hard to trust them anymore.
People had a problem with the #Pocket affiliation, people had a problem with the #telemetry, people had problems seeing the new #ad system as privacy safe, and people had a problem with the new verbage in the #ToS. These issues are compounded.
But also, as #primeagen has pointed out, making a modern browser is complex and expensive.
How do we fix that?
I'm eating Noodles and I'm sure I just got seaweed in my pocket
Cleaned out whatever was in my #Pocket and... found this gem.

I recently switched from #Pocket to (self-hosted) #Wallabag and put #KOReader on my #Kobo #eInk reader.
It started as a quick "let's see how it goes", but developed into a complete switch, and a whole new way how I read and process books and articles. I am seriously impressed!
… might blog about it soon.
Disable or re-enable Pocket for Firefox
Search for "pocket" in advanced settings, and change `extensions.pocket.enabled` to false (or back to true)
I've recommended #Linkding the other day as a #Pocket alternative. It was a one-to-one replacement on desktop... then I remembered that I used to save a bunch of links to Pocket from mobile too from time to time. In terms of browsing through your Linkding bookmarks, despite there being no mobile app (unlike Pocket), this was easy to do on #iOS by installing your Linkding instance as PWA. You could also do this on #Android, but only using #Chrome.
But adding links to the Linkding instance on mobile! I thought surely this is one omission I will have to live with... then I saw there was an official guide by them on how to achieve this, even without an app, by using #Apple's super powerful Shortcuts app and wow... it worked perfectly. From anywhere on my #iPhone, I can summon the iOS share sheet and on it there'll be an "Add to Linkding" option that'd do just that automatically. I'm genuinely shocked just how easy it is to essentially create a "context menu service" on an iPhone natively, without requiring being tech savvy. You could even export or share the Shortcut supplied by Linkding after you've configured the Linkding instance domain with your own.
There's a guide on achieving this on Android too, but the methods (they provided 2) are a lil different. One involves adding some #Javascript code to a bookmark of your Linkding instance, specifically on Chrome - using this method however, seems a lil janky and not that helpful since you seem to only be able to add bookmarks to your Linkding instance from Chrome and not elsewhere, and to do so you'll have to manually type bm
into the address bar The method I recommend is the second method on the documentation, which seems like it'd work a lot more like how it does on iOS, though you'll have to install a third-party app for it.

ugh, what #GetPocket #Pocket alternatives people like?
I just...... really hate the interface :|
I've finally found my long search for the perfect self-hosted replacement of #Mozilla's bookmarking service, #Pocket - #Linkding. It's a lil different, but for my use case, it's exactly what I need.
It's so simple a service, I wrote a working #Helm chart for it in less than 30 minutes probably. I've linked below my Helm chart repo if you're looking to self-host Linking on your own #Kubernetes cluster. https://github.com/sissbruecker/linkding

If there's anyone from Mozilla left here, I just wanted to say it'll be very unfortunate for Pocket to die without proper communication.
Just a thought
Life is proceeding quite pleasantly at the moment! Temperatures have been low and snowfall has been high, making for crappy driving and beautiful landscapes. Bestie and I walk and consume coffee and baked goods on Thursday mornings.
Lots of #sewing and #korean #LanguageLearning is occurring and I won the "Gwenchana" hoodie, which I hope to modify with an added #pocket.
Yogurt is currently being made and I'm making many more connections and purchases for my upcoming #korea #travel
