Certainly fits the notion that the pyramids were build far earlier than claimed... and by advenced civilisation.

In the Sacred Square, the Winds and Pillars are only given enough knowledge to do their jobs.
They don't learn how to read and write, for example. Totally unnecessary for following orders, after all.
It's something all of my chars struggle with.

For the Winds & Pillars, the inspiration was the Aztec Empire and their habit of sacrificing people on pyramids.
It spiraled from there to include the Houses, the tight control of powerful magic wielders, the paranoia about the Veil.
In one early-morning lazy writer brain plotting streak, I had the world, the characters and the titles all set. Now I'm just writing it.

Moon doesn't have one antagonist as such, she's fleeing the Priests as a ruling caste.
Many Priests do indeed have unusual powers, not the same as Moon, but they can also wield magic.
Which makes for interesting encounters...

I want my readers to feel at home when they re-enter my Winds & Pillars world, finding familiar situations and even a character they - vaguely - met in the book before.
I also want them to be excited and curious as to how Moon will escape her fate - and what kind of person she really is.
