One of the things I hate about Race Week (oh, there are so many things..), is that it's only safe to do about 30-35km in the centre of town because of all the rear-to-curb parking.
Because there's a huge number of SUVs, it means normal cars can't really see past the SUVs parked to see if it's clear to pull out of a parking spot.. so we have to inch forward to take a peek. So if you're driving through town you have to go relatively slowly because a car might peek out at some point - slow makes everything safer for everyone.
Cut to Race Week, where people don't understand this and don't think about it at all... so they zip through town doing as close to 50km as they can.. combined with the extra 250k people in a town built for 45k, someone is going to be killed.
Race Week..
It's looking like this is going to be the biggest we've had in years, and possibly ever. Town was already packed yesterday, and that was only Wednesday.
It's #RaceWeek in #Galway and the The Blue Note have this sign outside for #LadiesDay.
Good morning! How’s your week going?
Busy here, it’s “#RaceWeek” in #Galway, a horse racing festival (yuk), traditionally all the factories etc close down for two weeks.
You’d think that would mean we’re quiet but actually we use the time to do upgrades and maintenance on the stuff that’s normally running 24/7, so we’re rushing to get stuff done while we can. On top of all the day to day stuff that comes in.
It's #RaceWeek!
You know what that means. Time to put the kettle on...
