Raederle<p>Today, I signed my first ballot initiative petition which will permit/require ranked choice voting in <a href="https://masto.nu/tags/Michigan" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>Michigan</span></a> elections. Kiddo and I travelled several counties away today to hangout with family at a public outdoor event that had enough attendees to attract the canvassers for <a href="https://masto.nu/tags/RankMIVote" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>RankMIVote</span></a>. </p><p>Michigan has voter referendum. If enough signatures are collected, we the people get to decide about <a href="https://masto.nu/tags/RankedChoiceVoting" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>RankedChoiceVoting</span></a> which we desperately need.</p><p><a href="https://masto.nu/tags/MichiganPolitics" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>MichiganPolitics</span></a> <a href="https://masto.nu/tags/Politics" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>Politics</span></a></p>

Schwarzenegger is the guy who passed prop 11 to take redistricting authority away from legislators in the first place and passed prop 14 to establish open primaries in Cal. Newsom is the guy who vetoed <a href="https://nwt.social/tags/rankedchoicevoting" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>rankedchoicevoting</span></a> and went on the Charlie Kirk show to see if throwing trans people under the bus would boost his numbers. And then we can forget about democracy itself, not just the luxury of a left third party.</p><p>I say this as someone who spent 25 years in a left third party.</p><p>In the short run, which is all we have, the <a href="https://left-tusk.com/tags/Democratic" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>Democratic</span></a> Party is the only pro-democracy party that can win. Ian Kluft ✅🖥️📡<p>I missed the news back in June about a documentary "The Choice" about <a href="https://pnw.zone/tags/RankedChoiceVoting" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>RankedChoiceVoting</span></a> in its first use in <a href="https://pnw.zone/tags/Portland" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>Portland</span></a>, <a href="https://pnw.zone/tags/Oregon" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>Oregon</span></a>. (I was away on a road trip with a friend when this was in the news.) It observed changes to campaigns, outreach to voters on how RCV works &amp; addition of district covering areas previously ignored on the east side. The results show apparent success with a council more similar to the population. Added to my earlier thread about <a href="https://pnw.zone/tags/RCV" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>RCV</span></a>. <a href="https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=SJEKUNFfIBE" rel="nofollow noopener" translate="no" target="_blank"><span class="invisible">https://www.</span><span class="">youtube.com/watch?v=SJEKUNFfIBE</span><span class="invisible"></span></a> <a href="https://pnw.zone/tags/USpol" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>USpol</span></a> <a href="https://pnw.zone/tags/PNW" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>PNW</span></a></p>

Alan McConchie<p>Hey Whatcom County: fill out the poll for Cascadia Daily's "Citizens Agenda" and shape the questions they will ask of local candidates. Instead, we could have multi-seat districts, and choose the winners using <a href="https://left-tusk.com/tags/RankedChoiceVoting" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>RankedChoiceVoting</span></a> to ensure <a href="https://left-tusk.com/tags/ProportionalRepresentation" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>ProportionalRepresentation</span></a> in the result.</p><p>Until then, I'm absolutely for temporary gerrymandering in Democratic states, statehood for Puerto Rico and DC, expanding the Supreme Court, etc. Whatever it takes to get the fascists out of power and keep them out.</p>
william.maggos<p>The fix for the TX redistricting bullshit is FFV <a href="https://liberal.city/tags/RankedChoiceVoting" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>RankedChoiceVoting</span></a> everywhere. Don't try to do the same thing for Democrats in another state. Instead tell everybody that any party trying to lock in more districts for their side is anti democratic and against the will of our Founders who built a system to avoid the need for political parties.</p><p>Fulfill their promise. No primaries. End the duopoly.</p>
Becca<p>i'd rather we used a system that forced fair(er) play.</p><p>Then there would be less incentive to con and less incentive to immediately brand all politicians as untrustworthy.</p><p><a href="https://mstdn.social/tags/RankedChoiceVoting" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>RankedChoiceVoting</span></a></p>
ProRep Coalition<p>How to actually win the <a href="https://sfba.social/tags/gerrymandering" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>gerrymandering</span></a> wars, cont. Pass the <a href="https://sfba.social/tags/FairRepresentationAct" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>FairRepresentationAct</span></a> for the US House. Instead of partisan redistricting, the Fair Representation Act would require house members to be elected by <a href="https://sfba.social/tags/RankedChoiceVoting" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>RankedChoiceVoting</span></a> in multi-member districts. That will make gerrymandering impossible, make every election competitive and make the House much more socially and politically diverse.
