Norbi📷<p>It worked👍<br><a href="https://social.tchncs.de/tags/linuxmint" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>linuxmint</span></a> running on my 15 years old HP laptop w/o UEFI complained about an BIOS error and suggested to ask the BIOS vendor for fixes.<br>I found the BIOS software for this model which required windows to run.<br>Hmmmm🤔<br>This morning I saw a post mentioning <a href="https://social.tchncs.de/tags/reactos" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>reactos</span></a> and I thought: wow, lets try it.<br>After several crashes I removed the mouse, disconnected the second monitor but put the USB stick with the BIOS software in the second USB slot and booted <a href="https://social.tchncs.de/tags/reactos" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>reactos</span></a> from the first.<br>I was finally able to update the BIOS successfully😁<br>The software came as an .exe file. It contained another .exe file. I unpacked it with <a href="https://social.tchncs.de/tags/ArchiveManager" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>ArchiveManager</span></a> into a subdirectory so that the directory structure incl. Insydeflash.exe was visible. Put all on an USB stick and called Insydeflash directly. Success👍😁</p>

Chewie<p>I wasn't really planning on running yet another version of <a href="https://mammut.gogreenit.net/tags/Linux" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>Linux</span></a>, but over the last couple of days I have been trying to find something interesting to run on an old 32bit laptop.<br><a href="https://mammut.gogreenit.net/tags/HaikuOS" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>HaikuOS</span></a> keeps hanging after a few minutes (I have been trying to use it and keep it updated for a while as I loved <a href="https://mammut.gogreenit.net/tags/BeoS" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>BeoS</span></a>, but have run out of patience), <a href="https://mammut.gogreenit.net/tags/plan9front" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>plan9front</span></a> was too hardcore and you don't even get a Glenda boot logo 😞.</p><p><a href="https://mammut.gogreenit.net/tags/ReactOS" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>ReactOS</span></a> wouldn't even get to the installer when booting off CD (an old version worked in the past), and OpenBSD doesn't even come with a program launcher by default.</p><p><span class="h-card" translate="no"><a href="https://floss.social/@q4os" class="u-url mention" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">@<span>q4os</span></a></span> installed easily and worked fine on my old HP nc6230.<br>It has a nice lot of up-to-date software, a simple installer, nice themes, and seems stable so far 🥳 </p><p><a href="https://mammut.gogreenit.net/tags/ReduceRepairReuseRecycle" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>ReduceRepairReuseRecycle</span></a></p>
