Finished #reading the fascinating #novella #TheDaylighGate, #author #JeanetteWinterson's retelling of the #PendleWitchTrials of 1612 in England, when 12 men + women were charged with the murders of 10 people by the use of #witchcraft. Winterson reimagines this world adding passion + magic to the sad + tragic events of that time.
Statue is #AliceNutter, the central character in Winterson's story
What I read in February 2025
Finished the last 2 #books in Vilhelm Moberg's #TheEmigrantNovels - The Settlers & The Last Letter Home. Loved this entire series about a Swedish family homesteading in late 1800s Minnesota - Also the basis for two great films. Highly recommended
What else we're reading: Want to dive deeper? Check out *How Tearing Down Small Dams Is Helping Restore Northeast Rivers* by Rebecca from Yale Environment 360, and more insightful stories shared by our team. Stay curious! #ReadingList #KnowledgeSharing
Hey wonderful strangers out there
I just wanted to share with you something we've been doing with some of our friends over the past few months, just because I feel we need more wholesome news, communal activities and joyful lives but somehow we believe it's difficult or that other people won't follow.
So since Nov. 2024 we've been hosting a #BookClub session both physically and digitally, as we have plenty of friends who live abroad. Our focus is primarily texts that promote muted voices and narrations, politically stimulating ideas and fiction that dares to imagine impossible worlds and new forms of life. Each month we propose a few readings and then prioritise which ones we wanna do first. We read the #book and then meet, drink coffee and wine, eat cookies, light some candles and discuss our thoughts and feelings.
It's not much but it has brought us excitement and fulfillment plus we really get to do some heated, super interesting discussions. Ultimately we have an extra reason to get together
I'm gonna share our #ReadingList so far to give you a rough idea:
The Hologram; Feminist, Peer-to-Peer Health for a Post-Pandemic Future by C. Thornton
Witches, Midwives, and Nurses; A History of Women Healers by B. Ehrenreich & D. English
Chav Solidarity by D. Hunter
I have completed Tolkein's "Children of Hurin" and will be moving on to Tennyson's "Idylls of The King" next. #bookstodon #literature #readinglist #poetry

@Likewise yes i agree. I read my books digitally and don’t often see the covers once i begin the book. But i keep a list in Notion that showcases the covers. I transitioned over 20 years ago to reading all my books digitally, but that is one of the things I miss - having a physical bookshelf where I can see all the covers of the books. #notion #readinglist #organize

Fediverse Queer Reading List
Recently I asked for recommendations for books that featured Queer Romances and were either Young Adult, Science Fiction, or Fantasy. The Fediverse responded with an avalanche of titles, which I have compiled into a neat little list and divided into the following sections:
Fediverse Authors
Authors of Color
Genderqueer Authors
Standalone Stories
Books in a Series
