This incredibley neat haul of Amiga stuff came to us the other day ~ it was donated by a software developer and with it he had about 6 boxes of paperwork, CIB floppy disks and original software he programmed.
Some of the highlights were Animation Station, Railroad Tycoon, Shadowgate and Uninvited

#RetroPC :n RTC-kellon koteloon puhkaistu reiät varmistus-patterin syöttöjalkojen kohdalta. (Kuten aiemmassa tootissa suunnittelin.)

#RetroPC

Mystery-brand 8088 PC/XT clone I rescued from e-waste. No brand on it anywhere other than those freakin awesome “Heart My PC” badges, and I can’t find a single mention anywhere online about an all-blue PC/XT clone even existing.

It has “NAN TAN COMPUTER CO” and “NTC CO” under the keyboard, but they seem to just be a keyboard manufacturer and never made full PCs.

All the chips inside are super generic, and all are either made in Malaysia or Taiwan, so I’m assuming it’s some generic small-run clone from somewhere in Asia.

Good morning.

Recently, i kind of fell into a rabbit hole about older but younger (2010s) laptop computers from the education business. Starting with a Dumpster find of an HP X360 11 G4, continuing over the Lenovo E series ... I found some interesting devices that - I think - have some interesting things in common.

I'd like to tell this story and for that, I kindly need ask for your help:

- Have you ever worked in a digital classroom with these devices and can talk about it? As a student or as a teacher or technical staff?
- Have you been in contact with these devices and can help guide my research?
- Are you familiar with the special features of these devices?

Please get in touch here.

Thank you so much.

He did it…the CRPG Addict beat Betrayal at Krondor.

I started it last year but only got about 10 hours end, halting as I began to realize just how long a game I’d be signing up for. I think reading this was the better choice :) #retrogaming #pcgaming #retropc

Pocket 8086 stuff

I managed to successfully test a null modem connection between my 2 Pocket 8086 laptops, which was cool, but have no idea how to fully use it between them, beyond a couple of multiplayer games, seeing as the spec is still pretty low! The Pocket 386s would open up being able to run more games and software for that sort of thing, but I do need to get a second Pocket 386 first.

This is one thing that older computers can still do over modern computers in most cases, as unless you buy a serial card, you can’t really do that thing on a newer system, and I should note for the record that you can get PCI Express serial cards if they’re needed, because I’ve a dual serial port card using that sort of connection! Coincidentally, that’s partly why I have pairs of older computers with serial and parallel ports, so I can play with null modem connections, and other devices that require the ports, especially as there are some unusual/rare things out there that need them!

That’s actually why I would need to have a dedicated laptop to pick up the slack in that regard, as USB to parallel/serial cables don’t work with every bit of old software, plus I’d want to have specific software for that hardware! Of course, I do have a laptop that is useless for gaming (the screen doesn’t work well with fast movement) that can run Windows XP, and has the relevant ports, though it is a bit on the hefty side!

I will post a few photos later on to show things in action, after my CF cards arrive, as I want to set them all up, though perhaps I’ll do a shortish video of the process instead… Either way, it’ll be next month before I can get any stuff like that done!
