The sketch, which first aired in 1976, is especially amusing to those working in dialectology and sociolinguistics.</p><p><a href="https://mastodonapp.uk/tags/linguistics" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>linguistics</span></a> <a href="https://mastodonapp.uk/tags/sociolinguistics" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>sociolinguistics</span></a> <a href="https://mastodonapp.uk/tags/RonnieCorbett" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>RonnieCorbett</span></a> <a href="https://mastodonapp.uk/tags/RonnieBarker" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>RonnieBarker</span></a> <a href="https://mastodonapp.uk/tags/TheTwoRonnies" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>TheTwoRonnies</span></a> <a href="https://mastodonapp.uk/tags/FourCandles" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>FourCandles</span></a></p><p><a href="https://www.bbc.com/news/av/entertainment-arts-35936407" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank"><span class="invisible">https://www.</span><span class="ellipsis">bbc.com/news/av/entertainment-</span><span class="invisible">arts-35936407</span></a></p>
Michael Meckler<p><span class="h-card"><a href="https://mastodonapp.uk/@captainpovey" class="u-url mention" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">@<span>captainpovey</span></a></span> Enjoyed listening on BBC Radio 4 Extra on BBC Sounds recently to a rediscovered recording of Desert Island Discs from 1971 with Ronnie Corbett. This was still relatively early in his career (he was only 40 and the programme was recorded during the first season of 'The Two Ronnies'), so he reflected a great deal on his early years growing up in Edinburgh. Definitely worth a listen.</p><p><a href="https://mastodonapp.uk/tags/RonnieCorbett" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>RonnieCorbett</span></a> <a href="https://mastodonapp.uk/tags/Edinburgh" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>Edinburgh</span></a> <a href="https://mastodonapp.uk/tags/DesertIslandDiscs" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>DesertIslandDiscs</span></a> <a href="https://mastodonapp.uk/tags/BBCRadio4Extra" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>BBCRadio4Extra</span></a> <a href="https://mastodonapp.uk/tags/BBCSounds" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>BBCSounds</span></a></p>
