Some local heritage... an Irish round tower.
We attended our friends' daughter's beautiful wedding in Dublin on Saturday and spent the evening in a lovely old house near Maynooth. Just up the road was this ruined church and fantastic round tower at Taghadoe.

A fairly well-preserved sheela-na-gig on the medieval church in Killinaboy (Irish: Cill Iníne Baoith "Church of the daughter of Baoth")
On the gable wall there's a Lorraine cross – an unusual feature in Ireland – and behind the ruin is the stump of a round tower

The monastic site was founded by St. Kevin and dates back to the 6th Century. It has a cathedral, a priest’s house built in the Romanesque style and several churches, the most famous being St. Kevin’s Church.
The graveyard beside it has examples of Celtic high crosses and the round tower is considered one of the best in Ireland.
The Irish Round Tower at Kinneigh is West Cork’s only surviving example of such a structure and is unique in that it is the only one with a hexagonal base. The large Celtic Cross headstone in the foreground was erected by the famous collector of Irish music, Chief Francis O’Neill, to the memory of his O’Mahony grandparents.
