55 people have drowned in devastating shipwreck in front of the Canary Islands

In the first days of November, 55 people have died along the migration path to the Canary Islands. Another 1,786 people rescued in operations near Lanzarote and El Hierro.

The migration route along the Atlantic has become an increasingly common path to Europe, with its primary departure points in southern Morocco, Mauritania, and Senegal.

With the escalation of violent interceptions by Libya and Tunisia, with the support of the EU, other dangerous migration routes have been used by people seeking safety in Europe.

For those trying to reach Europe from Senegal, the crossing is nearly 10 times longer than other Mediterranean routes.

Many boats, without proper navigation systems, are veering off course and some are drifting across the Atlantic to the shores of Brazil, taking hundreds of lives with them.

These are not numbers. These are human lives. The right seek asylum is a right protected by international law.

In the early morning, our crew found the unseaworthy wooden boat with 15 people on it while on binocular watch. Everyone, including one child could be safely embarked onto our deck and our crew provided food, water, and medical care.

UPDATE 2024/05/01 - TROTAMAR III - TRAININGS

Heute hat die Crew unseres Einsatzes #3/24 mit den Trainings im Hafenbecken von Licata begonnen. Mit einem zweiten Schlauchboot, welches die Seenotrettungs-NGOs in Licata gemeinsam beschafft haben, üben wir Rettungssituationen, die wir auf der Fluchtroute im Mittelmeer erwarten. Dabei geht es um eine erste Kommunikation mit den Menschen oder die Übergabe von Rettungswesten bis zur Rettung einer Person aus dem Wasser. Unser Ziel ist, mit den Mitteln an Bord die Menschen auf den seeuntüchtigen Booten zu stabilisieren, bis Unterstützung von der italienischen Küstenwache oder einem größeren Rettungsschiff kommt. Im Notfall nehmen wir die Menschen an Bord der TROTAMAR III.

Es sind keine drei Wochen mehr, dann wird es MAL ÉLÉVE für uns krachen lassen. Seine klaren Botschaften gehen am 17. Mai raus an die Welt, für die Seenotrettung im Mittelmeer zeigt er klare Kante. "Menschen zu retten ist kein Verbrechen", heißt es in seinem Song "Mittelmeer". "Es ist Zeit zu handeln, es ist Zeit zu agier'n".

Wir freuen uns sehr, dass @mal_eleve mit seinem Auftritt die Benefiz-Partie beluga#24 am 17. Mai in #Gorleben unterstützt. Another deadly quarter in the Central Mediterranean
In the last 3 months, over 383 people have died or gone missing whilst making the deadly journey across the central Mediterranean Sea trying to seek safety in Europe (Source: UNHCR). Many more lives have been lost in undocumented invisible shipwrecks.

Whilst Europe continues to strengthen its external borders, the EU-supported so-called Libyan Coast Guard (SCLCG) illegally pushed back over 2,738 people to Libya (Source: IOM), an unsafe country as deemed by the Italian high court and many human rights organisations. The EU is sending people to their deaths with their racist policies and the funding of the SCLCG.

Europe's deadly policies need to change. Louise Michel demands freedom of movement and safe passage for all. No one should have to risk their lives in search of freedom.
