Four-time Grammy winner Lizzo has signed to star as guitar-playing gospel singer Sister Rosetta Tharpe in a biopic from MGM Studios. Tharpe's style birthed rock 'n' roll and influenced everyone from Elvis Presley to Bob Dylan.

She suffered social and personal obstacles, including an abusive partner, segregation, racism and enjoyed relationships with both men and women. Her first album came out when she was 24 (The Lonesome Road).

Her R&B gospel influenced the likes of Ray Charles and Aretha Franklin, and her breakout guitar solos anticipated the style of Chuck Berry. This 1956 set features Tharpe still at her peak, rocking the gospel like nobody else on “Jericho, “Up Above My Head” and other classics.
