A Welcome to Country isn't welcoming you to Australia, you fucking losers.

It's welcoming you to the specific Aboriginal Country that the event you're attending is occurring on.

It's not directed at settlers to remind you that you're settlers - be honest, nothing we do is going to address your entitlement.

It's for everyone who isn't a part of that Aboriginal community, and it's a WELCOME.

Only someone desperate to be a victim would find a ritual designed to literally WELCOME them into a shared space alienating.

Y'all must've been super confused when your mother's would welcome you home from school, huh?

Jacob Hersant arrested for booing an Aboriginal Elder performing the Welcome to Country in Melbourne for the ANZAC Dawn Service.

Seems like he learned his lesson from the single month of bail he was sentenced to for throwing a nazi salute last year.

_____

* he could have been sentenced to 12 months’ imprisonment and/or a fine of $24,000

** his lawyer argued (successfully) that it was a non-violent crime

*** he literally walked out of the courthouse and told the press he was a "soldier of Hitler's"

**** I'm 100% an abolitionist and I'm fucking tired of seeing shit stains like this get mercy from the courts while my people are killed in custody

***** if someone kills him I'll suck your dick and cook you the best bœuf bourguignon you've ever tasted - I'm very good at both.

4 days ago someone made a post in the Orange Community Facebook group complaining about "indigenous kids on illegal motorbikes distributing methamphetamines in my street", detailing how he'd called the cops who were doing nothing and now he was "going to go to the papers".. a lot of responses were talking about "the good old days when cops would give these people the old phonebook treatment".

Yesterday an anonymous post appeared to warn people they'd found a cable wire tied across the street at chest height (they'd taken it down, but someone might put it back up), and people in the comments defending the action saying if the cops won't solve the problem that they might have to.

Australia is a racist fucking cesspit.

🚫no settler comments🚫

I've been wanting to write a post about the response from a lot of settlers to Hana Rawhiti protesting with the Haka in New Zealand parliament the other day. Two things I've noticed:

1. Clips start at the beginning of the Haka, and are missing out where she calls "Kāwana, ka whakamanuwhiritia koe e au!"*
[Government, you exist by my say-so and I hereby revoke your rights!]**

2. Clips are inundated with comments from settlers declaring that they "don't know why, but I always end up sobbing when I see a haka dance!"

And, well I have thoughts about both points.

But I really want to write something about those settler tears are people feeling the dearth of their own culture in the face of a moment of pure and direct connection to Culture , and how you can't expect to have a culture to connect with if all your people have done for hundreds of years is steal, rape, and murder.. but I don't have the energy to argue about it 😆
