The wonderful Swinside stone circle. It was a fine walk over Black Combe to reach here. 10 years back, I'd love to visit here again one day.
I can't remember the name of this circle on #dartmoor from last year. Same weather as now - it was biblical seeing them solidify out of the mist #StoneCircle #StandingStoneSunday #silentsunday

A sunny 2011 visit to Old Keig recumbent stone circle in Aberdeenshire for today's #StandingStoneSunday
The recumbent stone is massive, thought to weigh over 50 tons and is the largest known of any recumbent stone circle. It was moved uphill from miles away to this spot.
Dawn at Castlerigg for today's #StandingStoneSunday
Looking towards the wonderful Blencathra as the sun comes up.
The Sighthill Stone Circle in the north of Glasgow. Consisting of a 4 ton central stone surrounded by 16 smaller one, this circle was created as part of a Jobs Creation scheme in 1979. The brainchild of Duncan Lunan, it's thought to the the first astronomically-aligned stone circle built in Scotlanf for around 3,000 years. Originally erected in Sighthill Park, it was taken down in 2016 and moved to its current location in 2019.
Show-site time for today's #StandingStoneSunday - Castlerigg at sunset, looking towards Causey Pike.
This visit October 2011.
The recumbent stone and flankers of the Midmar Kirk Stone Circle in Aberdeenshire, and the kirk, built adjacent to the 17m diameter circle in 1787, some 4,000 years after the circle was put in place. More pics and info: https://www.undiscoveredscotland.co.uk/echt/midmarcircle/index.html
