Sweater's done, fiddly bits and all. Woohoo!
Two days to knit the four pieces on the machine, one day to seam, one day to weave in all the ends, and two days to fuss with handknitting this neckline. I know it *can* be done on the machine, and I plan to experiment with it when I'm not in such a hurry to finish the project.
You know, this thing where I chose the fiddliest neckband to knit onto the sweater is conflicting with the part where I wanted the sweater done in time to wear it on winterholiday vacation.
The forecast on Sunday is for a high temp of 23°F (-5°C) and a low of 5°F (-15°C) so I will definitely need to bring some warm clothes with me.
I’ve been wearing my new purple sweater like it’s a hug. We had cool weather so I got to wear it at Thanksgiving, and I could hear in my mind the exclamation that Grandma would have made at seeing it – “Ohhhh, PURple!”

P.S. I've already started a pair of chonky cabled socks with the leftover yarn.
Today I washed the purple sweater pieces, then sewed in the sleeves and seamed half of it (one sleeve, one side) before it was time for dinner. Tomorrow I'll seam the other side and try it on, and then I'll pick up stitches and knit the neck ribbing.
I mentioned to my brother that I was knitting a purple sweater in Grandma's memory, and that the sleeve-cuffs would have enough room for me to tuck a spare tissue "just in case I need one later, you never know!" He said that was a nice touch.
I'm still not sure what it means to "process" my feelings but I think knitting a purple sweater might be part of it. Not that it's making me have fewer feelings or anything, but at least I'm being productive about them?
You guys. YOU GUYS. I knit a sweater, with my own two hands, and it took less time and less yarn than I expected. (I might be addicted to sweaters now.)
This is the Graphic Pullover by Amy Gunderson, knit with Universal Yarn Deluxe DK Tweed Superwash. I saw a picture of it on Pinterest and fell in love with it so fast that I bought the yarn that same night. Details on the blog:

With 9 projects already in the books for 2024, #10 within spitting distance of the finish line, and #11 turning the corner into the home stretch, I bought yarn for a sweater project in memory of my grandma, whose favourite colour was purple.

As soon as it's dry, I can weave in the ends and call it finished! (It may be mid-October, but it's still too warm here to wear this sweater. But I'm ready for when the weather cools.)
Today's blog post is about the 99% complete Graphic Pullover, which is the first sweater I've hand-knit for myself: https://www.knittingpirate.com/2024/10/22/in-which-the-pirate-blocks/
