Bis Mittwoch ist am DESY das europäische HDF5-Nutzergruppentreffen. #HDF5 ist das hierarchische Dateiformat, Version fümpf; ein Datencontainer, in dem wir unsere Röntgenbilder am #Synchrotron speichern. Und weil die Messungen immer größer und umfangreicher werden, packen wir gleich 3000 Bilder in eine Datei. Und viele Metadaten mit dazu. Das passt aber alles gar nicht in 1 Tröt …

The 19th SOLEIL Users’ Meeting will take place on Monday January 27th and Tuesday 28th, 2025 at #SOLEIL.

This invaluable forum for the #synchrotron radiation users’ community will provide the opportunity to exchange and learn about the evolution of the machine and the beamlines. It will be also the occasion to share scientific, technical and practical issues about the synchrotron radiation use.

This year, the Committee is offering a revised program to address your feedback, including a reorganisation of the parallel sessions.
The plenary talks will cover recent research highlights of SOLEIL in the following areas:
· Cultural heritage
. Electronic and magnetic properties of matter
In the afternoon of January 27th, 2025 a social time and scientific exchange will be held at SOLEIL, including the poster session, stands from commercial exhibitors and the dinner buffet.
Satellites and tutorial will also be organised on site on tuesday afternoon the 28th of January, 2025. Details about the tutorial will be communicated later.

We can make #Ringwoodite but measuring the pressure is hard. Yingwei Fei (CIW, Fei et al, 2004) pioneered combining the experiment with simple cubic crystals with well known volume changes with pressure. The volume of these cubic crystals is measured with synchrotron x-rays at the same time as the Ringwoodite is forming.

Mapping organic matter in stalagmites using synchrotron infrared energy

It was April 2021, and myself and Pauline Treble (ANSTO) had emails about a forthcoming online XFM and IRM microscopy workshop at the Australian Synchrotron. That's x-ray fluorescence mapping and infra-red mapping at very high spatial and optical resolution. We already used XFM to map elements in stalagmites, but what about using IRM to map organic matter...?
