@LaF0rge @sysmocom I do agree on that one.

The main problem with some mandate in that regard is that such regulations then get flexed against consumers.

Notable examples are the:

  • #IMEI-Blocking in #Turkey after 90 days and subsequent demand for #KYC even for #Roaming devices.
  • #Australia's IMEI-Firewall because some morons decided they wanted to axe #2G & #3G despite millions of devices that can't do #VoLTE still being in use.

Now granted anyone who can manipulate the IMEI can circumvent that but that means 99,9% of all users aka. "#TechIlliterates" can't.

@smote legally yes, practically no because already the #prohibitionist shite has already migrated away from that.

  • Note the fine wording here, which only states "crypto asset service providers [...] maintaining anonymous accounts"...

Exchanges like #ChangeNow will just do #KYC and everyone who doesn't want/can will merely go to back alleys and swap that way or simply use non-EU exchanges and/or swap Monero into some shitcoins and/or the other way around.

  • Obviously neither recommending nor vouching for any services for obvious reasons. All I'm saying is that it's never about #MoneyLaundering or #CTF, but merely exerting #Cyberfacism against #TechIlliterates whilst those that do want to facilitate illicit business have enough mules in traditional finance...

Again: #CashByMail is still not illegal...

@ml I've heard of #RustDesk, but lets just say the whole "it's not #SaaS!" when it clearly is a #subscription #licensing scheme is kinda off-putting to me...
rustdesk.com/pricing/?lang=en

That doesn't mean they are bad - far from it.

I just use #Dayon because it's very easy to walkthrough #TechIlliterates when it comes to getting #RemoteSupport up and running with them.

@renardboy @derekmorr depends...

Did you have to remotely onboard someone onto a secure communication stack whilst they are on the run from the authorities and blood relatives due to "living while trans" with a literal "dead or alive" bounty on their head whilst stuck in a besieged city that's being shelled?

  • Cuz I did...

@signalapp is evidently a solution appealing to #TechIlliterates with dangerous 'semi-knowledge' who are willing to accept a "#TrustMeBro!" by @Mer__edith and #MoxieMarlinspike before her.

  • Using #Signal would've gotten said person tracked down and killed by the de-facto aithorities for merely having their phone # linked to that shite!

@fabiscafe @okapi OFC @chesheer 's criticism is understandable on #FreeBSD given that #SystemD is inherenty focussed and intertwined with #Linux (just as it's Inspiration, #LaunchD, is intertwined with #macOS's Darwin/NeXTstep kernel).

  • The problem is after some hefty "init wars" with like #Upstart and others SystemD became the de-facto standard, and the "(statistical) rounding errors" of #BSD users got sidelined, in part because BSDs looked at that mess and went like "Nyet, SysVinit is fine!" and continued their fiddling around...

And sadly there's nothing they (or anyone else) could've done unless they had multiplied suddenly and being able to keepcthe old tech stack maintainable.

OFC I wish for more diversity in solutions, but #Linux being #streamlined is what makes #portability across distros easier and boosted adoption as well as providing massive gains in solutions like #DXVK, #Proton and #Wine in general.

  • And TBH most "#TechIlliterates" aka. "#Normies" frankly don't give a shit what OS they use. All it needs to do is serve them their eMails and allow them to 'consoom themselbes happy' as in watching YouTube, Play games, etc.
BSD.cafe Mastodon Portalchesheer (@chesheer@bsd.cafe)So, known parties tirelessly work to make Linux a new Windows. Gnome announces even harder dependency on systemd. GDM will depend on systemd userdb infrastructure. gnome-session will use systemd service manager instead of its own code that "has received very minimal attention in the 17 years since it was first written". As per article, even now they do not test Gnome in non-systemd environments. It's like a writing on the wall. https://blogs.gnome.org/adrianvovk/2025/06/10/gnome-systemd-dependencies/ #Gnome #Linux #systemd

@radmin @vozercozer them featuring #Bitcoin #Ethereum, #BraveBrowser and not #Monero, #TorBrowser & #BitTorrent shows that the original creators (not the OP!) are #CryptoBros and #TechIlliterates as they shove in #Blockchain garbage everywhere and fail to acknowledge shortcomings.

  • I.e. #MetaMask is just garbage software and doesn't even work well, far less can replace #PayPal and do actual payments!

Also noone wants garbage like Ethereum, #Filecoin and/or whatever other #Shitcoin they pitch!
