Gender identity or gender ideology? Part 1…
As Trans awareness Week is ending I want to ask whether gender identity is something different from gender ‘ideology’ and if so why? Does it go deeper somehow? Is it psychosomatic? Should it be pathologised?
Comment below and share as I’d love to have as many views as possible on this.

My final episode this #transawarenessweek hopefully hits hard as I think #TDoR is the perfect time to highlight that we need to protect trans kids.
Loaded with some confronting stats and drawing on my personal experience as a teacher I am unpacking the discrimination, violance and mental health issues that effect trans youth. It is about time more people joined this fight as things are only going to get worse with the current climate and potential for greater legal persecution. These kids need help and support so they can grow up and experience the wounderful things life can offer, but that is only going to happen if people take a stand.

Share this if trans people are welcome and safe with you #TransAwarenessWeek #NOH8
It's #InternationalMensDay *and* #TransAwarenessWeek, so this is your reminder that trans men also get abortions.
Last year, I wrote about how trans, non-binary, and intersex people are left out of the conversation about access to #abortion and reproductive justice: https://mashable.com/article/trans-people-abortion-rights-activism
Out tomorrow, Changing the Game is an Emmy-nominated documentary focusing on the lives of transgender athletes It also won the GLAAD Media Award for Outstanding Documentary.
You can watch it on on Apple TV, Amazon Prime Video, Google Play Movies and TV, and YouTube Movies.

After discussing dysphoria, it was only right that my next video, this #TransAwarenessWeek, was focusing on something positive, like exploring the Gender Euphoria and the impact these positive moments can have. #trans #transjourney #gendereuphoria #lgbtqia
Day seven of Trans Awareness Week, and what I want to share today is a book that I go back to when I need uplifting.
THE FAGGOTS AND THEIR FRIENDS BETWEEN REVOLUTIONS
Written by a gay man and illustrated by a lesbian in 1977, this is a gay manifesto presented as a fable. A raging queer fable that strangely resembles the world we live in today.
This book is part of my queer mental health care.
After years of relating to this book, I moved to Ithaca, took a walking queer history tour as part of Pride, and found myself standing outside the house where it was written, as Ned Astra herself stood with us and added bits to the historian's talk.
In December there is going to be the North American premiere of the stage play in New York City.

Day six of Trans Awareness Week, and I am sharing links that I think are going to be necessary and practical to far too many in the coming months. A lot of what is coming is going to be federal encouragement and empowerment of states to take independent actions so learning what legal resources trans folx have in your home state is important.

Welcome, safe, celebrated, loved....
And defended.
Solidarity!
There are so many fantastic people in our community doing their bit to support others. In our latest feature article, Alex (@Petren33) tells us how helping others also helped them to understand themself.
For day five in Trans Awareness Week, I am making some movie recommendations. All of these performances were groundbreaking and gender-breaking in their day. This is what passed for trans cinema if you were growing up Gen X, not that any of it was called that.
DOG DAY AFTERNOON (1975) - Al Pacino plays a gay man who stages bank robbery to pay for his partner's sex change operation, based on a true story.
THE YEAR OF LIVING DANGEROUSLY (1982) - Linda Hunt won Best Supporting Actress at the 1983 Oscars for portraying photojournalist Billy Kwan.
HAIRSPRAY (1988) - Divine's turn as Edna Turnblad took her from underground films to mainstream audiences.
PARIS IS BURNING (1990) - legendary documentary of NY ballroom culture, probably the first time most GenXers saw transfolx
THE CRYING GAME (1992) - Jaye Davidson's portrayal of Dil earned a nomination of Best Supporting Actor at the 1993 Oscars.
ORLANDO (1992) - Tilda Swinton plays the title character who changes gender in mid-story
Resilience is key
This Trans Awareness Week, we stand in solidarity with transgender people and transgender refugees worldwide. Transgender refugees face unique challenges, escaping life-threatening persecution only to encounter more barriers in their journey to safety. We would continue to stand in solidarity with them and support their voice, no matter what.
We are here to keep fighting for Trans Rights.

"When cis people try to understand what it is to be trans, I think they often try to imagine what it would feel like to want to be 'the opposite sex'. What they should be trying to imagine, instead, is how it would feel to wake up and find that the whole world insists they *are* the opposite sex. That would be a much closer scenario to how it feels to be trans." Sage
For day four in Trans Awareness Week 2024, I am sharing the link to the online care package created by the Transgender Law Center for Black trans folx. The Black siblings of the Trans community shoulder a heavier load of the community work, and they bear the majority of the horrific violence from USian white culture.
This is a multi-sensory experience, the page linked below is the written guide with links to the mixed media. There is also a safe exit button present at all times.
