They said, "he'll be great for the economy." It's been 2 months. How's that going?

"Take low-income consumers: [...] Walmart Chief Executive Doug McMillon said 'budget-pressured' customers are showing stressed behaviors...”

"Things don’t look much better on the higher end. American consumers’ spending on the luxury market, which includes high-end department stores and online platforms, fell 9.3% in February from a year earlier..."

So I heard Peter Navarro, Trump’s senior trade and manufacturing advisor, say in an interview today that (massive) #tariffs will pay for the massive #tax cuts that #Trump plans to push through (especially for the wealthy).

Wow… it’s like they are rolling the dice (gambling, taking ‘risk’) with the #economy while they reverse Robin Hood and rob Peter to pay Paul.

And just thinking of numbers quickly in my head, it seems they will STILL add to the budget deficit.

Fascinating argument by @TimothyNoah that #Trump is working against the economic interests of billionaires and blue-collar workers alike.

"I didn’t see this coming. Trump’s first presidency pampered oligarchs with tax cuts and deregulation. Trump’s second presidency will have more of that, sure, but it will also bring a mismanagement of the economy so grievous that it’s indistinguishable from sabotage…Looking back 40 years, [@adam_bonica] calculates that billionaire wealth grew 57.1% during Democratic administrations and 16.5% under Republicans. That wasn’t because Democratic presidents gave billionaires special breaks; it was because Democrats were superior stewards of the economy."

Yes, "Americans" may have lost nearly $2-trillion in market value today, but that's according to plan.
When the pathologically rich have wiped out everyone else, they'll be happily buying up all the assets at pennies on the dollar.
The rest of us will be peasants, servants, or private security people, if we're not already dead from pandemics, starvation, or war.

"Farmers and food organizations across the country are cutting staff, halting investments and missing key funding amid a USDA freeze on a broad swath of grants, more than two dozen farmers and agricultural support groups in seven states told Reuters.

"All this comes as Trump has imposed new tariffs on goods from Canada, Mexico and China, sparking trade wars with the biggest buyers of U.S. farm products."
