just wrapped up unfucking a #proxmox #windows server guest that had imported disks from #vmware. it was an arduous process that involved a ton of time with bcdedit/bcdboot. i also had to use dism to manually inject the #virtio drivers. ugh.

i really should document this and make it a blog post or something but i am so very exhausted. i need to do this again with another guest so maybe i'll write it all down then.

Three strikes and its out. It looks like VMware's bridged networking is just too flaky. I now have two totally different VMs where the network goes deaf after some time. I'll try to use VirtualBox although I prefer VMware.

I should mention that the problem is only on my M4 Mac mini. My venerable 2012 mini runs a VMware VM without a problem.

All of a sudden my Ubuntu client in a VMWare Workstation container running on a windows host refused to connect to the outside world across a network. Couldn't even ping 8.8.8.8

Tried restarting Ubuntu nope
Tried restarting VMWare still nope
Tried restarting Windows YAY!

Have you tried turning it off and on again?

It's been a while since I've run VMs locally, what is the best option in 2025 for a Windows 10/11 PC?

Is VMware Player/Workstation even a viable option after the Broadcom acquisition and them selling off their EUC department to Omnissa?

New Evasive Campaign Delivers LegionLoader via Fake CAPTCHA & CloudFlare Turnstile

A new malicious campaign has been discovered targeting users searching for PDF documents online. The attack uses fake CAPTCHAs and CloudFlare Turnstile to deliver LegionLoader malware, which then installs a malicious browser extension. The infection chain involves a drive-by download, execution of a VMware-signed application that sideloads a malicious DLL, and use of process hollowing to inject the LegionLoader payload. The browser extension, disguised as 'Save to Google Drive', is installed on Chrome, Edge, Brave and Opera browsers to steal sensitive user data and monitor Bitcoin activities. The campaign has affected over 140 customers, primarily in North America, Asia and Southern Europe, with technology and financial services sectors being the most targeted.

How to scare away your customers, exhibit 4821: #Broadcom #VMware:

I don't know you, but if I were a customer for that product, I'd most probably start migration projects today.
