Hualian AU where Hua Cheng and the other ghost kings are ancient vampires and Xie Lian is an incidental vampire hunter. He has a circulation disorder and thus cannot risk losing blood, so he's gotten really good at defending himself from vampires over the years. As his reputation grew, people started calling on him to slay vampires in their area.

Enter Hua Cheng, a relatively younger vampire who still has enough humanity left in him to not kill people when he feeds. Still, when the local vampire hunter is sent to destroy him, he will not hesitate to scare them off.

Only when Xie Lian bursts into his lair and his tough facade crumbles as his chronic condition flares up. Fearing the worst, he is resigned to his fate as he falls dizzily to the floor.

But Hua Cheng helps him instead of killing him. He offers to let Xie Lian stay in his manor until he's feeling better. It's for entirely selfish reasons at first. Keeping the vampire hunter locked away means less of a threat to the local vampire community.

Of course, when he starts falling for the righteous vampire hunter's charms, well, all the more reason to keep him close and safe.
