For those of you doing basic, talking head video content on a regular basis what software are you using? Specifically, I'm looking for something which runs under Linux (preferred) or possibly Mac. Windows is a non-starter. All I need are basic edits, chroma key and possibly the ability to overlay content. I'm probably going to go with OBS studio, obsproject.com/ but I'm open to suggestions.

obsproject.comOpen Broadcaster Software | OBSOBS (Open Broadcaster Software) is free and open source software for video recording and live streaming. Stream to Twitch, YouTube and many other providers or record your own videos with high quality H264 / AAC encoding.

Question for ANYONE who does audio and video editing.

Is there any website (like SkillShare, etc) that offers complete training in Open Source software (not ADOBE only for example for video)?

I use Audacity, OBS/SLOBS at the moment, but want to learn more. I also use Linux only, so no Microsoft or Mac only.

I found I learn better watching and creating, rather than reading off a website. Between my disabilities and ADHD, I have to find a way to do it on my own time.

I have a background in hardware support, but want to learn editing (is it engineering?).

Budget is an issue :(

This month, I (soft) launched the redesigned candide.media website, and (officially) launched the "Frugal Filmmaking: Video Editing on a Budget" course! 🥳

The hybrid course (happening both in-person and virtually) teaches participants how to edit video using @kdenlive, where to find #CreativeCommons assets, how to add effects, and more.

The workshop aims to strike the right balance between teaching how #kdenlive works, #videoediting techniques, and thinking critically about video.

🧵

The people editing the trailers for Marvel's "Thunderbolts*" are really doing an excellent job, _especially_ with the short social media ones.

For example, look at this one. I was watching it on my phone, in portrait, full screen, and I started smiling in appreciation at the start, when the picture flips but the logo is upright and the motorcycle looks almost correct, in a strange way. This is perfection.

Can anyone recommend a really great Android app that has both image editing and video editing?

Looking for an alternative to Google Photos that can rival or surpass their image and video editing features.

Additional Requirements:
1. Solid UI that's modern and thoughtfully designed
2. Preferably one app, but open to two (depending)
3. Preferably open source, of course

Bonuses would be:
1. Image compression
2. Video compression
3. Easy way to support creator (card payment pref)

Seems like Resolve doesn't want to install on Fedora 40 and newer due to the zlib package changing to something else and I found this on the Black Magic Design forum:

Edit: Fixed it and updated my instructions for installing Resolve on an Arch or Arch-based (preferably not Manjaro) host with a Fedora container:

Mashable: How 4 creators use CapCut to edit their TikTok videos. “It can be daunting to get started without previous knowledge of editing tools. However, some TikTok creators have opened the curtain behind how they edit their own videos using CapCut, a video editing app developed by ByteDance, TikTok’s parent company. Here are some helpful guides creators have put together to make editing […]

Graz University of Technology: Diminished Reality: TU Graz Team Makes Objects Disappear in Real Time. “Researchers at the Institute of Visual Computing have made it possible to remove objects from live recordings of three-dimensional environments without time delay while the camera remains in motion.”

I made a video and an audio track sound. I synchronized the two with ffmpeg. They are well in sync on my (linux) and on a friend's (mac) laptop.

But when I load and read it on my (android) phone, the audio is slightly (.1-.2 sec?) but visibly out of sync. I can't upload this on Loops. Annoying. Any one has an idea of what I can do?

Blackmagic Design just released a fantastic new camera, plus a bunch of other new products, and an update to DaVinci Resolve 20 (free update because it's a lifetime licence, not a subscription rip-off).

Customers started placing orders, and units would have started shipping immediately after the announcement at NAB 2025 just two days ago.

Now, Trump's terrible tariffs are biting. Blackmagic Design has been forced to increase prices for all hardware sold in the USA by 32%. :blobcatfacepalm2:

Edit to update:

Blackmagic Design has wasted no time, and announced that they've implemented a workaround:
"We have moved production of the PYXIS cameras to reduce the impact of the tariffs." — Kris Lam, Product Manager, Cameras Department, Blackmagic Design

A tiny number of countries have not been hit by Trump's new sanctions: Belarus, Burkina Faso, Canada, Cuba, Mexico, North Korea, Palau, Russia, Seychelles, Somalia, and Vatican City.

My educated guess is that the country where Blackmagic Design expanded its pre-existing manufacturing base is Mexico.

Are Trump's sanctions strongarming companies into moving jobs to the USA to Make America Great Again?
No. They're merely causing a scheduling wrinkle of less than one week while companies pivot to manufacturing in Mexico.

Engadget: YouTube is updating the Shorts video editor to make it a better alternative to TikTok. “YouTube is updating the video editor for Shorts to better compete with the likes of TikTok and Instagram Reels, and teasing some AI-powered features that are coming later this year that might make it stand out.”

I guess the obvious answer is to try Pitivi again. I think I’ve been burned by it in the past with it losing a project and waiting a long time for an export to get something that wasn’t accurately following my intended cuts—but maybe it’s gotten better?

Is that the best option for me to try again, or is there something else that works well and looks good on a modern GNOME desktop that I should be looking at?
