Chimps Treat Wounds, Showing Compassion Beyond Humans

Scientists in Uganda observed chimpanzees treating the injuries of unrelated chimps in the wild, including those caught in hunting snares. This rare act of mutual care suggests compassionate care might be more widespread in the animal kingdom than previously thought.

I watched her jump twice for some arrowleaf balsamroot* and miss; she found much more success with the nearby dandelions.

Not the greatest bird photo, but I was lucky to catch the little bird with an aphid, which I thought was cool. This rose thicket is always full of aphids in the spring and a hot spot of activity especially with warblers (who were almost impossible to photograph.)

Today's bird ID quiz is not a trick question: Many of u can probably name this widespread Neotropical hawk with googly gold goggle eyes in just one try! Feel free to post your guess in the replies, later, I'll come back & reveal the answer.
