While we believe #Accessibility should be a key component of any project from the outset, one of the advantages of open source is that those with the knowledge are able to contribute to projects to help address shortcomings. @wireshark is "The world's most popular #network protocol analyzer", and a fellow #OpenSource project. Do we know any #A11y coders with an interest in #Networking willing to give them a hand with accessibility? See their post here: fosstodon.org/@wireshark@ioc.e #FOSS

accessibility question, please boost!

for folks who rely on screen readers, or otherwise rely on alt text of images for any reason: what is the best way to write alt text for an infographic that contains a lot of data or text?

Just had a wild tech support experience with @InnosearchAI , who run an online shopping platform made to be accessible for blind users. I wrote them with an issue I was having using the site with my screen reader, and they wrote back saying let's schedule a Zoom call so you can show us what's happening, and we'll give you $50 in credit on your account. And then that actually happened. The people on the call were very nice, and I sort of just don't know how to react to a tech company actually valuing my feedback as a screen reader user. Like valuing it with money. #blind #accessibility

Very cool! In Toronto:

And yes, #accessibility is a reason for choosing a #tablet over a #phablet:

Espechally #seniors who have trouble seeing do enjoy the fact that most #Android #Apps are just heing displayed bigger and they have less trouble using any on-screen keyboard.

Plus they may already have gotten their hearing aid or audio setup connected to said tablet for media consumption so it's less fiddly for them!

This is a real 1st world problem, but it is frustrating.
I like the Meta Rayban glasses so much that I got a 2nd pair at Christmas. I found that the glasses lost connection with Be My Eyes regularly, and it seemed to be when I changed from wearing 1 pair to the other. So I got into the habit of disconnecting Be My Eyes & reconnecting each time I changed glasses. This seemed to work.
But yesterday I updated my iPhone to iOS 18.4 and now the Accessibility section within MetaView app’s Settings has vanished. I’ve shut down & restarted both the app & my phone, but there is no longer an #Accessibility section in the app.
Has anyone else noticed this? I know I can still use Be My Eyes via the phone, but doing it by voice activation was so much easier.

5+ years I’ve been raising concerns about CSS techniques that fail WCAG SC 1.4.4 Resize Text.

So the CSSWG goes ahead and just… encodes the failure.

The response? Change WCAG.

The CSSWG seriously needs an enforced horizontal #accessibility review process.

I am working on creating a handbook that describes the assistive technologies available in the FreeBSD operating system, which will be freely available online for anyone to consult. Currently, the effort is focused on gathering and documenting accessibility features for visual impairments, and it is sponsored by the @FreeBSDFoundation

If you are interested in the topic, a public repository is available for suggestions and corrections: gitlab.com/alfix/freebsd-acces
