A mockingbird was singing mightily as we walked home from coffee this morning. Mockingbirds are impressive vocalists, known for their incredible repertoire of songs, often mimicking other birds and sometimes sounds of the city. These encounters enhance an ordinary morning walk.

What a difference a day makes.

Storm Herminia rolled in and brought high seas, wind and rain.

Mid morning panorama of Dungarvan bay viewed from Helvick looking north across a wild stormy sea.

The grey sky and rain almost completely obscure the far side of the bay and the Comeragh Plateau beyond. The water is extremely choppy with lots of white capped waves and long streaks of foam from long breakers rolling in from the east.

A green lawn with some bushes is visible in the shaded foreground There are fir trees in the middle distance on the left of the picture down by the sea and a cordalyne Australensis on the right that is being tossed about in the high wind.
