Alles, was ich über Geheimdienste weiß, habe ich von John Le Carré gelernt. Also, das meiste. Der Richard Burton Film „Der Spion der aus der Kälte kam“ (1965) war sozusagen der Schlüssel und die BBC Serie „Smiley’s Leute“ (1982), mit Sir Alec Guinness, vollendete meine Grundausbildung. (ZDF)

Back to the Mandalorian. #Spoilers

In 2.5, The Jedi, the climax serves as an homage to the influence of Kurosawa on the Star Wars Universe.

At the end of the episode Mando and Ahsoka Tano team up.

Filoni finishes the episode with two one-on-one battles.

Ahsoka faces off against Elsbeth in a classic samurai duel.

And the Mandalorian faces off against Lang in a classic quickdraw gunfight.

It's a beautiful tribute to the influences behind Star Wars.

Doller Fund im Bücherschrank: »So etwas wie eine Autobiographie« (Jap. 1981, Engl. 1982) von #AkiraKurosawa. Erschien bei uns 1986. Taschenbuchausgabe Diogenes kam 1991 raus und seitdem keine Neuausgaben, soweit ich weiß. Auch so Zeichen unseres Kulturverfalls.
Immerhin: Meister Akira bietet einen der besten Memoiren-Anfänge, die ich kenne.

Vorwort IN DER VORKRIEGSZEIT, als noch Händler mit allerlei Hausmittelchen über Land zogen, da hatten sie für den Verkauf eines dieser Mittel, das sich besonders zur Behandlung von Brand- und Schnittwunden eignen sollte, eine Geschichte parat. Es hieß, man setze eine Kröte, die vorn vier und hinten sechs Beine habe, in einen Kasten, der auf vier Seiten mit Spiegeln ausgelegt sei. Beim Anblick ihrer zahlreichen Spiegelbilder breche die Kröte in Schweiß aus. Diesen öligen Schweiß nun sammele man und lasse ihn unter ständigem Umrühren mit einem Weidenzweig 3721 Tage lang kochen. Das Ergebnis sei besagtes Wundermittel. Wenn ich nun über mich selbst schreibe, fühle ich mich ein wenig wie die Kröte in diesem Kasten.

the other night I watched Dreams (directed by Akira Kurosawa) for the first time

I thought it was v good, the focus on visuals, slow pace & message/metaphor heavy dialogue were all to my taste

I'm also really into anthologies for whatever reason. I think my favourite of the 8 vignettes was "The Weeping Demon"
