Lauren McMenemy
Early bird prices end TOMORROW, 14 April, so grab your ticket to next month's Writing the Occult deep-dive into relics before the prices rise. We'll look at ossuaries, human remains, Egyptology, cursed tombs and objects, what it's like to be an archaeologist both in the ground and under the water, and how horror writers have used all of the above to great storytelling effect. Martin Rundkvist
Prior to our arrival on site this morning, it had seen about 20 person hours of metal detecting. Today so far, we have put in over 60 person hours and made a couple hundred finds, mostly from the period c. AD 400-800. #archaeology

Author-ized L.J.
In 2006 a group of ancient graves were unearthed in Yeongdong-ri, Naju in the southwest of #Korea. One of the graves, a set of multigenerational 5th- to 6th-century burial chambers holding a family, yielded nine extremely well-preserved human skeletons. #DNA sequencing revealed shared mitochondrial heritage between the jointly-buried bodies, indicating a matrilineal family structure. The remains were also more closely related to humans in modern Kyushu, #Japan than modern Korean or older Japanese populations, hinting at exchanges and movement between the Naju and Kyushu regions. #history #archaeology

Image hidden for skeletal human remains.
