Our lunch at the famous Naguib Mahfouz Café in Khan El Khalili.

"Nestled in the heart of the historic Khan El Khalili bazaar in Cairo, the Naguib Mahfouz Café stands as a tribute to one of Egypt’s most celebrated literary figures. For café lovers and literature enthusiasts alike, this enchanting spot offers more than just a culinary experience; it provides a journey through time, culture, and the rich heritage of Egyptian storytelling."

My photos at the Khan Al-Khalili market which is undoubtedly one of the best markets in Egypt. Bargaining skills needed because they will start you off with something 100% higher.

"Khan el-Khalili (Arabic: خان الخليلي) is a famous bazaar in the historic center of Cairo, Egypt. Established as a center of trade in the Mamluk era and named for one of its several historic caravanserais, the bazaar district has since become one of Cairo's main attractions for tourists and Egyptians alike. It is also home to many Egyptian artisans and workshops involved in the production of traditional crafts and souvenirs. The name Khan el-Khalili historically referred to a single building in the area; today it refers to the entire shopping district." --- Wikipedia

Yeah, #Mercurial still shows some signs of life (comparing to #Bazaar, for example), but I wonder how really valuable this space is for your personal enlightenment. I would be more concerned with those emerging systems like #Jujutsu or #Pijul, which seem to be more relevant (and I have zero opinion on their technical merits, because I don’t know anything about them).

The only surviving original M&S Penny Bazaar. All original except the lights are no longer gas. "Michael Marks opened his first stall in Leeds. The signs he used to advertise his penny price point became well known, stating ‘Don’t ask the price, it’s a penny’." Marks formed M&S with Tom Spencer in 1894, the Newcastle one was opened in1895, so it must be one of their first.

Good morning. ☕☕☕

14 October 2023

My wife was up early this morning, and off to a set up a booth and a bazaar held by the local Catholic church. She made a bunch of Teddy Bears and tote bags to sell. She really went all out with the Teddy bears, packaged in fancy plastic a real pro look. She used different fabrics, but I think the LSU (Louisiana State University) bears with sell like hotcakes. Though she told me the price that she is selling them for and I'm pretty sure that they cost her more to make than what she is asking, and that's not including her time. She also took a few quilts and a couple of my photos on stretched canvas. Sorry, I didn't take photos.

“The guy behind the counter scratches his neck. “Are you being serious?” Her face is stoic. “Absolutely. I never kid about teddy bears.” - Jessica Sorensen, The Coincidence of Callie & Kayden
