SaaraBehavior change is much more about strategy than self-dicipline. You need to make the desired behavior as easy as possible by removing friction. For example I always have a dumbell and drawing equipment laying around near me so I will do small spontaneous bursts of muscle workout throughout the day and use small moments of idleness to draw.<br> <br> The opposite works as well. For example you will likely reduce your social media usage dramatically just by logging out after each session. SaaraOne of the reasons changing bad habits is so difficult is that learned patterns don't just disappear from your brain when you replace a habit. For example you could be free of tobacco for months but slip back into smoking if a familiar cue triggers the old habit (like a social situation you associate with smoking or a stressful life change). Would you be interested in an informal monthly meetup in a cafe/pub/other space to chat, swap ideas, stories and "network"?

I'm pondering on starting something up in the city and trying to gauge interest...

If you're wondering, this isn't an idea solely for academics or those 100% engaged in #SocialGood agency work.

There are loads of folk who work to change behaviours - #NHS communicators, #LocalGovernment folk, #charity folk etc - who might not class themselves as 'behaviour change' types, but who nevertheless are working to create change.

Social Marketing practice has, at an academic level, often missed these practitioners out - so I want to change that!

Let me know what you think and maybe we can gather!

Another question (and I will try to reply to everybody responding, but sometimes it will take a while):

I am looking for research in the social domain regarding generational changes in mindset. For example: governments are working hard to change the mindset of young people regarding smoking. I am searching for a more general view regarding that mechanism and the ways it can be implemented to cause change.
