Stacks And Skerries

Another of my favourite shots to share with you today.
These are Reynisdrangar sea pillars just offshore from the bird cliffs of Reynisfjall, taken from Víkurfjara, the beach at Vík í Mýrdal on the southern coast of #Iceland.

Although the stormy sea looks dark and foreboding it's actually very clear. Beneath the water the sand is volcanic black, like its more famous neighbour Reynisfjara beach.

#Iceland dump #3. Onto the #SouthShore
tour, taking in the #Eyjafjöll glacier, still showing signs of the dust from the #Eyjafjallajökull volcanic eruption in 2010. It had its own micro-climate right by the glacier. Rain by it but sunshine and warm just over a km away. Onto the #BlackSandBeach at #Reynisfjara, a stunning place but I'm chuffed with my shot of the horses and riders, kind of dystopian! #Skógafoss waterfall, which has a 500+ steps climb to the top of it, well worth it but knackering!

Part 2 of 3 of some #TravelPhotography from #OnThisDay in 2018. Our south coast tour of #Iceland continued with a visit to Vík í Mýrdal (or #Vik for short) that you can see in the first two photos here. We walked down a rocky jetty to look back at the charming #church and out to the #basalt columns at sea. The last two photos are from nearby #Reynisfjara and its #BlackSand #Beach. More basalt columns here and the distant view of Dyrhólaey.
