In celebration of the new Alison Krauss and Union Station album I just uploaded an AK&US "sbd archive" collection (125 songs from 1989-2012, no repeats) and one of her shows as a member of the Tony Rice Unit from '88. These are legal live lossless audio files for download. I'll leave them up for a few days but not long.

"Eh cher / You know that I love you / But if you don’t leave soon / I just might have to kill you", sings Lisa Leblanc, who is one of my favourite Canadian musicians.

Glorious vocal and banjo performance here, mixing Chiac and English, clawhammer and picking.

Elage Diouf – I am a man of constant sorrow

Cover of “I am a man of constant sorrow” from the movie "O Brother, Where Art Thou?"

In 2002, the popular revival of this mountain ballad took bluegrass to #1 on the Billboard Album Chart.

🎶 Well it's another Friday Night, and we still got a Jukebox🎶 … with the theme "Hit and Miss" for:
songs with arrows, sharpshooting, targets,
hits from any country, chart or era
One-hit Wonders,
hit cover songs tho' not for the original artist,
and misses.

But the internet messed up the charts! Canadian bluegrass song gets 437 1/2 million views!

You bluegrass fans will be appalled, but I want to go back and remix all the early Country Gentlemen recordings and remove every John Duffy mandolin solo.

He is... not good.

His voice was excellent, but I think they let his mandolin in the band to get his tenor harmonies.

His mandolin solos are crap. He sounds like some beginning jazz alto sax player who just discovered the blues and flattens every note in sight for no damn reason, like Mandolizilla.

Okay, in 1851 the opera Rigoletto was first performed in Venice. BUT 155 years later, a Canadian film adaptation, ''Rigoletto ...in bluegrass" won Best Originality at the Bluegrass Independent Film Festival in Kentucky.

While most of the music is deliberately corny bluegrass, the Prelude and the Introduction from the original opera are performed by the Mandolin Society of Peterborough.

#MorningListening is the new Sierra Hull album, "A Tip Toe High Wire" --- great record so far, #Bluegrass and #Folk, including collabs with a number of luminaries (Bela Fleck, Tim O'Brien, Aoife O'Donovan).

A number of fun, high energy tunes with lots of flashy fretwork - linked here is "Lord, That's a Long Way" - but just smart tunes all around. A number of them hang out in that slightly proggy bluegrass space.

This will get a lot of play, I think.
