The Queen of Bohemia

Portraits of Welsh writer and artist Nina Hamnett, known for larger than life personality and her many love affairs with both men and women in the artist community. She drank heavily and once danced nude on a Montparnasse café table just for the "hell of it".

In 1932 Hamnett published Laughing Torso, a tale of her bohemian life, and 23 years later released a follow-up book titled Is She a Lady?.

During the last years of her life she spent a good deal of time drinking. She died at age 66 after a fall from a window. It is not known whether it was accidental or a suicide.

'An Italian hippie'

Vali Myers (2 August 1930 – 12 February 2003) was an Australian born artist, bohemian, traveller, tattooist, dancer and muse.

Myers was a flamboyant fantasy artist who worked in pen and ink and watercolour as well as being a nightclub dancer. She divided her life between her adopted home of Melbourne, the Hotel Chelsea in New York City, a 14th-century cottage at Il Porto, near Positano and a residence in Paris.

Her art works developed from early detailed monochromes to a full range of vibrant colours and tones extending to watercolour and gold leaf, displaying a "fastidiously rendered depiction of a personal spirit world". She was acquainted with many celebrities including Tennessee Williams, Salvador Dalí, Django Reinhardt, Jean Cocteau, Patti Smith, Jean Genet and Sam Shepard.

Myers' paintings have sold for up to $US40,000 ($A68,000) in New York. Her work was held in the Stuyvesant collection in the Netherlands, New York's Hurryman Collection, and is owned by private collectors such as George Plimpton and Mick Jagger.

In der Nacht des #Reichstagsbrandes wird Mühsam verhaftet, in Gefängnissen und #Konzentrationslagern gequält, bis er am 10. Juli 1934 im KZ #Oranienburg ermordet wird.

Erich #Mühsam war einer der bedeutendsten politischen #Journalisten und #Schriftsteller in der Weimarer Republik. Seine Teilnahme an der Münchner #Räterepublik brachte ihm fünfzehn Jahre Festungshaft. Er blieb trotz der Haft ungebrochen und setzte seine journalistische Arbeit fort. In der Weimarer Republik setzte er sich in der Roten Hilfe für die Freilassung politischer Gefangener ein. In der Nacht vom 9. zum 10. Juli 1934 wurde der #Dichter, #Bohemian und #Anarchist im #Konzentrationslager #Oranienburg von der SS ermordet. (…)
