A #BrightSpot has appeared in an otherwise underwhelming life.

Turns out the cost to ship my crates to France will be just over 1/3 what I thought they would cost, meaning I can probably also afford to ship my motorcycle instead of selling it.

It's nice to have good neighbors. Beyond nice. I'm in a state that overall votes Democrat, in a multi-county region that is hardcore Trumpy Republican, in a little college town that is more liberal than conservative. My one-block street has an awful lot of pride flags (and two Trump flags and one Church of Satan flag). Our neighbors had a bonfire. I feel peripheral to that friend group (it's my kid's mom's people), but they are great folks. And they appreciate an Indigo Girls sing-along.

My cat started letting me hold her like a little baby. She just flops back in my arms with her belly up. Honestly this has made my whole year so far.

Today I smiled at a good dog and the owner saw me smiling at the dog and they also smiled in a way that seemed to say 'ah yes, this person appreciates how good my dog is, what a connoisseur'.

Today's #BrightSpot is discovering that for a quick lunch I can split a frozen Costco pizza in half cleanly with my hands and that half fits perfectly into the new air fryer and its cooked to perfection in 10 minutes before the regular oven could even preheat.

My #BrightSpot for today is my son absolutely loving his first game at Towson Rec League basketball. Kid has energy to burn and this was a well-spent morning.

My #BrightSpot this morning has been responding to two students queries.
Both were clearly written questions of clarification that essentially required a one word answer in each case.
It's nice to see that our professional mathematical scientist strand is helping them with their communication skills. They wrote their emails in a way that showed they considered the problem carefully rather than using an email to a lecturer as a shortcut to an answer.

Laughter was still the cat's meow, absolutely THE #BrightSpot.

My #BrightSpot today was when three friendly neighbors descended into our backyard to rescue a small black and white lost dog who had hid itself between our back hedges and back fence. They stayed out for 15 minutes in the cold drizzle luring the poor thing out with a chicken drumstick. When they finally succeeded we lent them a few dry blankets and they took the dog to the local pet ER for observation. Would have loved to help more but my son would have tried to join in too and scared it more.

My #BrightSpot today is the Middle River Lighted Boat Parade, a #BaltimoreCounty even that after 25 years here, I only heard about for the first time this week.

We drove to a friend's house on the water this evening and watched a few dozen boats decked out in holiday lighting (including a sleigh and a crab) fire off a few flares to start the event and pilot their way around the waterway much to the delight of the adults gathered dockside.

The kids seemed nonplussed. Whatever. I loved it.
