Householders, if wife and husband want to see each other in both this life and the next, they should be equals in faith, ethics, generosity, and wisdom.

When both are faithful and bountiful,

I have had the pleasure of meeting Hoshina Seki a couple of times while visiting the New York Buddhist Church in Manhattan and the American Buddhist Study Center located therein (of which Hoshina is president).

Here is an article written last year where Hoshina describes her path as a trans woman with the backdrops of life in America as a Buddhist woman and as a Japanese American.

I find it very pertinent today, especially as she describes attacks against Japanese immigrants and US citizens of Japanese descent by the US govt that mirror the ICE raids that we're seeing today.

If many people live together, as we do here in the monastery, they can still practice comfortably if their views are in harmony.

It’s not true to say that there will be disharmony just because there are many of us.
Just look at a millipede. A millipede has many legs, doesn’t it? Just looking at it, you’d think it would have difficulty walking but actually it doesn’t. It has its own order and rhythm.
In our practice, it’s the same. If we practice properly, even if we number in the hundreds or thousands, no matter how many we are, we will live in harmony.

Unlike the thinkers of his day, the Buddha focused not on what gets reborn, but on how the process happens.

That’s because discussions of what gets reborn go nowhere, but the ability to understand the steps in the process can help you negotiate it skillfully, either to take on a new becoming in a good world, or to go beyond the process of becoming entirely.
The process depends on craving. Consciousness, which is also a process, does not need a body to continue functioning. It can cling to craving, and craving will take it to a new becoming.
This is how consciousness survives the death of the body. If the craving is relatively skillful, it will lead to a good destination; if not, it will lead to a bad one.

The Tōdai-ji temple at Nara has many deer around it in the nearby park. Despite there being a lot of these pointy bois and many posted signs, people get rrrreally close to them, which they don't entirely love (unless you've bought them a cracker.) FAFO, I guess.

In its fullest measure, Right View involves a correct understanding of the entire Dhamma, or teaching of the Buddha, and thus its scope is equal to the range of the Dhamma itself.

But for practical purposes, two kinds of Right View stand out as primary. One is mundane Right View, right view which operates within the confines of the world...
Mundane right view involves a correct grasp of the law of kamma: “Beings are the owners of their actions, the heirs of their actions; they spring from their actions, are bound to their actions, and are supported by their actions. Whatever deeds they do, good or bad, of those they shall be heirs.”
The other is supramundane Right View, the superior right view which leads to liberation from the world. The first is concerned with the laws governing material and spiritual progress within the round of becoming, with the principles that lead to higher and lower states of existence, to mundane happiness and suffering.
The second is concerned with the principles essential to liberation. It does not aim merely at spiritual progress from life to life, but at emancipation from the cycle of recurring lives and deaths.
