Good morning!

Another day in the office, with focus on learning new things about Kubernetes and Talos with the team.

Working for a company that gives space so that you or your team can spend about 20% of their time on new things and designing possible architecture for the infrastructure is really nice.

What do you have planned for today?

Today I'll show you why I love #EastFrisia so much. Let me present to you typical residents (photos 3, 5 and 7) and typical landscapes 😁
Photo 8 also does justice to #MeerMittwoch. Why, you ask? There's only a lake to be seen! Well, here in East Frisia, the sea (North Sea) is called ‘die See’ (the lake). Lakes (i.e. small, enclosed bodies of water) are called ‘Meer’ (sea) here. There is Ewiges Meer (Eternal Sea) and Großes Meer (Great Sea) – both of which are lakes 😊
Are you all confused now? Well, perfect moment to take a look at the pictures and relax, is it not? 😉

My summer is over.

Outside, I connected the boat to a shoreline and topped up the meter £75. Inside, I set up 2 small heaters and a dehumidifier, which were stowed in the bow with the anchor. A friend will empty the dehumidifier weekly.💦

Before I leave, I need to empty the fridge, wash all bedding, drain the water tank and pipes, disconnect the shower—the previous tap froze and burst—and winterise the boat engine.

I went to a horse show.

They had shire horses done up like the horses that used to tow boats from the canal towpaths.

A horse of 800 kg could pull 100× its weight, because the load floats relatively friction free on water. These big horses were for fully loaded, massive barges.

The photo shows a woman in traditional attire leading a shire horse. Its tack has bobbins so the rope would roll without rubbing the skin off the horse.

This is what happened last week when locks were restricted. Everyone would arrive hours early and get reeeeally tense.

There was literally no way for a boat to enter the top lock to descend until 3 of these boats backed up. And there were also boats coming up the flight. No way for them to get out.

From last weekend, these locks and many others are closed indefinitely, due to the water shortage.
