: The goosander (Mergus merganser) is the largest member of the genus of mergansers in the family of ducks (Anatidae). Its distribution area is the Holarctic and includes large parts of northern Eurasia and North America. With a body length of 58–68 cm and a wingspan of 78–94 cm, goosander are significantly larger than mallards. The Red List of breeding birds in Germany classifies the species as „endangered“ (level 3). There are around 60,000 breeding pairs in Europe, around 25,000 in Finland and around 850 to 1,000 in Germany.

I saw this stork last year or the year before on the way to a lake. It is sitting on a house to the right next to a traffic light. The last time the light unfortunately turned green too quickly, which is why I didn't catch it. This time I knew that a stork lived there and I immediately got my camera ready, rolled down the window and took a picture. I'm really glad that I was able to admire this majestic animal again! In seinem Körperbau ist das Eichhörnchen an eine baumbewohnende und kletternde Lebensweise angepasst. Es wiegt etwa 200–400 g. Die Kopf-Rumpf-Länge beträgt 20–25 cm. Der zweizeilig behaarte, buschige Schwanz ist 15–20 cm lang. Er dient beim Klettern als Balancierhilfe und beim Springen als Steuerruder. Beim Laufen wird der Schwanz stets in der Luft gehalten.

It was a cold day without sun but I still wanted to go looking for birds. Unfortunately there was nothing going on until I heard 2 black woodpeckers. I looked around carefully until I saw this male on a thin, bare tree. I had only seen his belly and had to fight my way through the snow and fir trees to see him from the side. He hid most of the time and only showed his head now and then, which is why in the 10 minutes he was there, „only“ 2 pictures were taken. But I’m still happy!

: The black woodpecker (Dryocopus martius) is a member of the genus Dryocopus within the subfamily of the true woodpeckers (Picinae). Black woodpeckers of the nominate form Dryocopus martius martius reach a body length of up to 57 centimeters, with a wingspan of about 70 centimeters. The weight varies between 260 and 340 grams depending on the nutritional status. It is distributed across almost the entire northern and central Palearctic, with the exception of the British Isles and Iceland. Black woodpeckers feed mainly on insects, primarily ants. The proportion of plant food is insignificant, but fruits and berries as well as conifer seeds are occasionally consumed.

: The long-tailed tit (Aegithalos caudatus) is a small passerine bird in the family of long-tailed tits (Aegithalidae). It is quite small, with a total length of 13 to 16 centimeters, a round, spherical body and a noticeably long tail of 6 to 10 centimeters, which is where the species name comes from. The black beak is short and fine, measuring 6 to 7 millimeters in length. It weighs seven to ten grams and its wings are 6 to 7 centimeters long. The breeding range of this Palaearctic species extends over large parts of the temperate maritime and continental climate zones and extends into the boreal and subtropical zones. It inhabits habitats with richly structured edges and a frequent alternation between wooded or bushy and open areas. It likes moist soil habitats, often near water.
