If you are a climate activist, or anyone concerned about keeping oil in the ground in Canada the most important riding for the environment in this election and in Canada is probably Skeena - Bulkley Valley.

Remember the Northern Gateway Pipeline?

If the NDP's Taylor Bachrach can hold this riding, and the Liberals hold power in Ottawa, then this fight can stay dead and buried where it belongs. You can donate to his campaign here: taylorbachrach2025.ndp.ca

If the CPC and Conservative Ellis Ross wins -- he's a long time, oil soaked, climate denying, and divisive former First Nations leader and BC MLA -- expect them to lift the West Coast tanker ban and start another climate war like Clayoquot and Fairy Creek.

If large-scale action is going to take place quickly enough to stave off the worst damages of ecosystem breakdown, it will have to start at the top. We need total system change!

End capitalism. End colonialism. End imperialism. Break up the large nation-states. Commence degrowth.

Barring all that, which admittedly seems unlikely to happen, then it will be up to individuals and communities to make collective grassroots changes that might allow most of them to survive.

Either way, it's time to act.

CocaCola is the No1 polluter on the planet. Its packaging is needlessly damaging, its product massively damages health & the company exists SOLELY to enrich shareholders. Its very existence & success is enough evidence ON ITS OWN that we need to break from this suicidal system.

With Oil prices crashing — putting expensive US/Canadian oil supply at risk — and tariff hit consumers likely causing a recession in the world’s largest economies, could Donald Trump be the best thing to happen for CO2 emissions, and the transition to renewables, since the pandemic?

Only if the rest of the (sane) world takes the opportunity to double down on renewable energy.

"Apr 5, 2025

We need bold, decisive policies that go beyond the appointment of commissioners and directly tackle the environmental challenges we face. Anything less is an insult to the gravity of the crisis and a disservice to future generations.

The creation of this position should not be a cause for self-congratulation but a wake-up call to the systemic failures that necessitated it. It's time to move beyond symbolic gestures and demand concrete, immediate action. The climate emergency waits for no one, and Northern Ireland must shed its reputation as a climate laggard.

Our celebration of the newly established Climate Change Commissioner role is a stark reminder of the region's sluggish pace in addressing the climate crisis. While this appointment may seem like progress, it's merely a drop in the ocean of what is urgently needed.

Northern Ireland's environmental record has been nothing short of shameful, lagging behind in implementing effective climate policies.
