Sept 28-Oct 1 is California Chapter of American Planning Association conference, in Monterey County. apacalifornia.org/ Conference theme is "WAVES OF CHANGE: Reconnecting #Communities.” Two of 13 mobile workshops are promoted as being via bicycle, and there's a bike in conference banner, and @ 1:00 in “APA California 2025 Conference Hype Video.” In Feb we were invited by a Santa Cruz County based planner to serve on a proposed bike-related panel at the conference; we urged him to instead invite #CalBike’s executive director or policy director (and he did). He later reported that his panel submission was rejected by conference organizers. :(

Hello world!

We're the Mozilla Data Collective - and we want to rebuild the #AI #data #ecosystem - with #communities at the centre.

We can do better than giving communities a false choice between exposing their content to unconsented web scraping, with no say in how that data is used - or being pressured into signing exclusive licensing deals with a megacorp - stifling innovation.

We see another way.

The Mozilla Data Collective.

“Six months into enforcement, #Britain’s techno-solutionist fantasy has crashed into reality with predictable results. Beneficial #online #communities have been obliterated, #VPN adoption has surged 1,400%, and the UK has created a perfect case study for why governments can’t regulate away complex social problems with #algorithmic band-aids and #surveillance theater.”

Well done #Strayan techo Gov. This is what we look forward to 🤪

"Anger is one such emotion that is frequently locked away and denied. The result is a struggle to communicate anger in healthy ways and difficulty distinguishing between anger that serves and toxic anger.

Anger that serves is like a flame. It is forward-moving and it is bright. When it is acknowledged, it dissipates quite quickly.

* Healthy anger is a call out for connection and it's not out to hurt anybody. *

Toxic anger, on the other hand, lives in our bodies like a poison. It swims in circles with no place to go. No amount of expression diminishes its virulence or its hold. I have often heard it said that movement spaces are filled with people who carry this quality of anger - this bitter, consuming, toxic fury at the White House, white people, whatever.

Toxic anger is not anger.

It is, in truth, a graveyard of grief.

A mass gathering of unexpressed feelings and unmet needs, both intergenerational and individual.
Systemic conditions disallow impacted folx from expressing grief or heartache. Our movement spaces are filled with this toxicity, not because anyone wants to carry it, but because we have not been allowed sufficient time and space to grief. As individuals and as a collective, our health and well-being depends upon our willingness to find space to do it anyways."
