katharina<p>Finished another book. This time "the dinner lady detectives" by Hannah Hendy. As the title suggests its about two dinner ladies investigating a murder, although if you are hoping for some extremely clever sleuthing you would be disappointed. The dinner ladies bumble their way through the murder investigation and only make it out alive by sheer luck. This book, however, is full of charm and humour and the characters are fun and engaging. So I would recommend it!<br><a href="https://mastodon.social/tags/bookstodon" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>bookstodon</span></a> <a href="https://mastodon.social/tags/books" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>books</span></a> <a href="https://mastodon.social/tags/crimenovel" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>crimenovel</span></a></p>

d4doome<p>W.R. Burnett&#39;s 1949 noir novel The Asphalt Jungle. The story of a heist but mostly the story of the men carrying out the heist. d4doome<p>Sin Pit (1954) is Paul S. Meskil’s only novel. It&#39;s seriously hardboiled, most definitely noir and pretty sleazy. This is the seamy underside of 1950s America. A cynical cop gets drawn into a nightmare world of lust. Excellent book.</p><p>My review: <a href="https://vintagepopfictions.blogspot.com/2023/06/paul-s-meskils-sin-pit.html" target="_blank" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" translate="no"><span class="invisible">https://</span><span class="ellipsis">vintagepopfictions.blogspot.co</span><span class="invisible">m/2023/06/paul-s-meskils-sin-pit.html</span></a></p><p><a href="https://mastodon.ie/tags/crimenovel" class="mention hashtag" rel="tag">#<span>crimenovel</span></a> <a href="https://mastodon.ie/tags/crimenovels" class="mention hashtag" rel="tag">#<span>crimenovels</span></a> <a href="https://mastodon.ie/tags/crimefiction" class="mention hashtag" rel="tag">#<span>crimefiction</span></a> <a href="https://mastodon.ie/tags/hardboiledfiction" class="mention hashtag" rel="tag">#<span>hardboiledfiction</span></a> <a href="https://mastodon.ie/tags/hardboiled" class="mention hashtag" rel="tag">#<span>hardboiled</span></a> <a href="https://mastodon.ie/tags/noir" class="mention hashtag" rel="tag">#<span>noir</span></a> <a href="https://mastodon.ie/tags/noirfiction" class="mention hashtag" rel="tag">#<span>noirfiction</span></a></p>
d4doome<p>Leslie Charteris&#39;s The Saint Goes West, a 1942 collection of three Saint novellas. A transitional slightly Americanised version of Simon Templar which for me works less well than the earlier and later versions. But the stories are excellent.</p><p>My review: <a href="https://vintagepopfictions.blogspot.com/2023/05/the-saint-goes-west.html" target="_blank" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" translate="no"><span class="invisible">https://</span><span class="ellipsis">vintagepopfictions.blogspot.co</span><span class="invisible">m/2023/05/the-saint-goes-west.html</span></a></p><p><a href="https://mastodon.ie/tags/crimenovel" class="mention hashtag" rel="tag">#<span>crimenovel</span></a> <a href="https://mastodon.ie/tags/crimenovels" class="mention hashtag" rel="tag">#<span>crimenovels</span></a> <a href="https://mastodon.ie/tags/crimefiction" class="mention hashtag" rel="tag">#<span>crimefiction</span></a> <a href="https://mastodon.ie/tags/vintagecrime" class="mention hashtag" rel="tag">#<span>vintagecrime</span></a> <a href="https://mastodon.ie/tags/vintagethriller" class="mention hashtag" rel="tag">#<span>vintagethriller</span></a> <a href="https://mastodon.ie/tags/vintagethrillers" class="mention hashtag" rel="tag">#<span>vintagethrillers</span></a> <a href="https://mastodon.ie/tags/vintagemystery" class="mention hashtag" rel="tag">#<span>vintagemystery</span></a> <a href="https://mastodon.ie/tags/vintagemysteries" class="mention hashtag" rel="tag">#<span>vintagemysteries</span></a> <a href="https://mastodon.ie/tags/LeslieCharteris" class="mention hashtag" rel="tag">#<span>LeslieCharteris</span></a> <a href="https://mastodon.ie/tags/thesaint" class="mention hashtag" rel="tag">#<span>thesaint</span></a> <a href="https://mastodon.ie/tags/SimonTemplar" class="mention hashtag" rel="tag">#<span>SimonTemplar</span></a></p>
d4doome<p>W.R. Burnett&#39;s High Sierra, a great noir novel by a great writer. A bank robber just out of jail gets mixed up in a heist with a bunch of amateurs and a girl. He used to be a big shot. Now he&#39;s tired and fatalistic. The book packs a real punch.</p><p>My review: <a href="https://vintagepopfictions.blogspot.com/2023/05/wr-burnetts-high-sierra.html" target="_blank" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" translate="no"><span class="invisible">https://</span><span class="ellipsis">vintagepopfictions.blogspot.co</span><span class="invisible">m/2023/05/wr-burnetts-high-sierra.html</span></a></p><p><a href="https://mastodon.ie/tags/crimenovels" class="mention hashtag" rel="tag">#<span>crimenovels</span></a> <a href="https://mastodon.ie/tags/crimenovel" class="mention hashtag" rel="tag">#<span>crimenovel</span></a> <a href="https://mastodon.ie/tags/crimefiction" class="mention hashtag" rel="tag">#<span>crimefiction</span></a> <a href="https://mastodon.ie/tags/noir" class="mention hashtag" rel="tag">#<span>noir</span></a> <a href="https://mastodon.ie/tags/noirfiction" class="mention hashtag" rel="tag">#<span>noirfiction</span></a> <a href="https://mastodon.ie/tags/hardboiled" class="mention hashtag" rel="tag">#<span>hardboiled</span></a> <a href="https://mastodon.ie/tags/hardboiledfiction" class="mention hashtag" rel="tag">#<span>hardboiledfiction</span></a> <a href="https://mastodon.ie/tags/WRBurnett" class="mention hashtag" rel="tag">#<span>WRBurnett</span></a></p>
