katharinaFinished another book. This time "the dinner lady detectives" by Hannah Hendy. As the title suggests its about two dinner ladies investigating a murder, although if you are hoping for some extremely clever sleuthing you would be disappointed. The dinner ladies bumble their way through the murder investigation and only make it out alive by sheer luck. This book, however, is full of charm and humour and the characters are fun and engaging. Holger HaaseYesterday was the release day of Catherine Ryan Howard's new crime thriller THE TRAP.She is a local author from Cork and like clockwork every year at this time she has a new book out.I read this in one single setting which these days is highly unusual for me. d4doomeSin Pit (1954) is Paul S. Meskil’s only novel. It's seriously hardboiled, most definitely noir and pretty sleazy. This is the seamy underside of 1950s America. A cynical cop gets drawn into a nightmare world of lust. d4doomeLeslie Charteris's The Saint Goes West, a 1942 collection of three Saint novellas. A transitional slightly Americanised version of Simon Templar which for me works less well than the earlier and later versions. d4doomeW.R. Burnett's High Sierra, a great noir novel by a great writer. A bank robber just out of jail gets mixed up in a heist with a bunch of amateurs and a girl. He used to be a big shot. Now he's tired and fatalistic.
