I’m in episode three of Critical Role: Exandria Unlimited. Aabria Iyengar is a great GM, but I think what makes EXU so amazing is Matt Mercer as a player. He’s dumping hundreds of episodes of pent up disruptive energy on her in just a handful of episodes. He’s here for the most mutually enjoyable payback he can possibly manage. #CriticalRole

The usual attempt to have coherent stories is what's wrong with them. Planning is stupid, stories don't work in RPGs. But this gibberish nonsense with a pig and Pan Man and loser scouts, works.

D&D as a game system is total shit for it, tho. Wizard, barbarian, etc, what the fuck. I might use Little Fears, or Witchcraft/All Flesh Must Be Eaten. Maybe Savage Worlds? Fast skill-based mechanics are the way to go here, since they're collecting "merit badges".

So, I've been listening to #CriticalRole for the first time.

First of all, if you've been bashing this group, shame on you, they're delightful.

Second of all, I get why this ended up being so popular. Obviously "a bunch of talented people play a fun game together" is a formula for success, but I did not expect to be quite so charmed by the players.

Grog reminds me of the phenomenon that all of my smartest players always play stupid characters. Dude is on point.

Jestas.
