Aus den amtlichen Bekanntmachungen bezüglich Schulanfang und Sicherheit unserer Kinder: "Das Symbol für den Radweg ist nur informativ, da es einen solchen bislang in Weixdorf nicht gibt."

From the official announcements regarding the start of school and the safety of our children: “The symbol for the cycle path is only informative, as there is no such path in Weixdorf yet.”

This morning's dog walk was through snow. There was quite a lot of the white stuff around, but

It still amazes me how efficiently the heat pump extracts heat from obviously cold outdoor air to make our home warm. I mean that both in terms of rapidly heating us up, and in that it does not use much electricity.

I could really do with a break from this damp and misty weather. It's not especially cold right now, around freezing point, but it's somehow piercing. A cold that you feel despite a decent jacket.

Anyway, more parcels of bike parts began their journeys to customers with a ride on my bike today. Sadly I've decided to stop accepting orders from the USA until we know what's going on with the wild man and his tariffs. When the UK changed its rules for imports it ended up costing me a lot of money (due to parcels sent early enough that they shouldn't have been affected not being delivered and instead being returned broken many months later) and I don't want to risk repeating that experience with the US.

A couple of photos from earlier this week when I went out for an extra ride for exercise. This maintenance vehicle went no faster than 33 km/h, but it was impossible to overtake it safely because there was always someone coming in the opposite direction, or a blind corner, or a junction... So I followed it for a while before it turned off in a different direction.
Luckily, this one is electrically powered so there was no stinky exhaust. If it was one of the older models I'd have found a different route instead of breathing all the fumes.

And the last photos for today are these from Sunday's recreational ride.
While riding between a smallish town and a village we came across a road and cycle-path closure, but as usual (in the Netherlands) the experience for cyclists was still top-notch.
This has to be the case.
If cyclists give up cycling due to bad experiences when infrastructure disappears temporarily they may never return to regular cycling.
You'll find lots more examples of how to make sure that road works don't stop people from cycling on my blog here:

And then I took some parcels to the post office. This photo shows a bus-stop bypass. Note that the cycle-path is completely straight and wide enough for cyclists to pass each other, while also being very well separated from the road.

There are more good examples of bus-stop bypasses at this link to my blog:

A couple were walking in the same direction as me but I didn’t notice that their dog was on the other side of my path and it was still leashed, meaning the lead passed across the entire width of the #cyclepath. As visibility was low and the lead was black, on a grey background, I didn’t see it until the absolute last second. I got tangled in it but at least the person let go and so it didn’t get too entangled and I was able to come to a controlled stop.
